Full Version: Video stutter, no sound with DTS-HD enabled on ION chipset

I have a Zodiac board with ION chipset and upgraded from Eden to RC2. Performance was not an issue so far. Except when activating DTS-HD audio:

My Denon amplifier shows DTS-HD (over HDMI cable) as input but no sound is played and the video stutters. As soon as I disable DTS-HD audio in the settings everything plays normal (with DTS of course).

Question:
a) is this an issue with RC2 which will be fixed for the final, or
b) is this a performance problem of my hardware (ION), which I'd need to upgrade for DTS-HD?
ION hardware is incapable of HD audio even if your receiver can.

OK, thanks Sad
That is what I wanted to know (I hoped for a different answer of course Wink)
Ah, wait. Sorry to open den topic again. But there is one thing, which I do not understand. If ION is not capable of decoding HD audio, why does my amplifier still show DTS-HD as input? If ION is not capable, then the amplifier should not get any signal, right?
I believe some ION can pass through HD audio and some cannot. (There was ION and then there was ION2 - most marketing doesn't distinguish ION2 except by calling it "next generation ION".)
I am having video lag when Dolby Digital TruHD, and HD DTS are use. I am using the latest drivers for Nvidia GTX 470 video card with I3 proc, and 4g ram. My receiver a HD Audio receiver as well.
Mmmh, sounds like the same problem but with different HW (so not ION related). Do you have sound despite the video lag?
The only similarity is that I also use the latest Nvidia driver (310.70). But I do not think this is related to the drivers.

So is this an XBMC issue or a bad choice of HW/SW/whatever configuration at least two people have Wink?
Dieter, exactly what chupset do you have? lspci -v?
I guess this is the relevant information you need:

Code:

I hope this means somethings to you, it doesn't to me Wink
Many thanks by the way, to give me a definitiv answer for my HW. It really means much to me, as I want HD audio; so if my HW is not capable, then I will have to change it.

However, even if my HW is not capable of HD audio, the isse may not (only) be related to that, as ANNIHILATOR001 seems to have the same problem with different HW.
I am pretty sure that your hardware is ION as opposed to ION2. Can you also give the output of lspci -n? Thanks.
Sorry, was absent for a while. Here is the lspci -n result. I added the description for each ID (as reported by lspci -vv):

Forget about other ppl posting opportunistic information, IT IS NOT related to you or your issue ok?

Your Hardware is NOT capable of HD audio passthough, disable the options in XBMC for all DTS-HD and TRUE-HD DTS-MA and it will passthrough LPCM up to 7.1 to your receiver.

Confirmed as ion not ion2 from the lspci info.
OK, understood. Thanks a lot for your patience and help.

Does ION version matter? Didn't think either version could bitstream the HD audio formats as I've never seen any reports of success with ION2 and nothing from Google searches that would suggest it might be able to do it.
