Full Version: Which USB receiver to buy to use with universal remote?

Hi, i'm setting up xbmc for my parents and they already have an universal remote for tv/sat/dvd. The remote has a few more available modes for XBMC. In fact, I loaned them my MCEusb receiver and programmed that with the remote. It works!

But, the MCEusb can no longer be bought and the ones that I have from china are HID (kbd+mouse) and cannot be used without their corresponding remote. I had some Usb igor-remote, but that was quite unusable.

So my questions is whether the is some ir USB receiver, which works as MCEusb?
Get A FLIRC http://flirc.tv/
Or any MCE compliant USB Receiver.

I got this one --> http://www.ebay.de/itm/Philips-Media-Cen...0820987064
thank you. I'll order this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/200845763175 ) and let you know. Somehow a FLIRC feels not the right thing, because of the proprietary sw.
Aren't all MCE USB recievers the same thing? I bought a Chinese authentic-looking one from eBay and it shows up in Linux as:

AFAIK this is the same reciever as the official Microsoft recievers (it says Microsoft on the label on mine but I doubt it's "genuine").

Mine is grey but this is the same seller so it's probably the same device. Shipping to Finland was less than 10 euros so it was definitely worth it.
