Good day/night all,
I've been struggling a bit to figure this one out. I just bought the ACER X1161P projector to use with my XBMC HTPC. The native resolution is 800x600 but it can go all the way to 1600x1200. I've tested it from a Win7 laptop and it works fine. I've tried installing the nVidia driver/package (as I have the Geforce 9500 GT card).
When I am in Setting-->Video output: Display mode full sreen #1, Resolution max's out at 800x600. The strange thing is while booting up, when the nVidia logo is displayed the projector displays at 1280x1024!! and when XBMC confluence loads it goes back to 800x600. Is there a work around to be able to adjust this resolution to a higher one and also the aspect ratio? I would like to use a 16:9 aspect ratio and can't find an option to do so.

Thanks very much for you kind assistance.

What is the output of xrandr and also the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log? Also debug log (wiki).

Not sure how to look at the xrandr file and I saw this in the xrog.0.log file
[991261.057] (II) NVIDIA(0): "nvidia-auto-select"
[991261.057] (II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 800 x 600
[991261.093] (WW) NVIDIA(0): Acer X1161P (CRT-0)'s EDID does not contain a maximum image
[991261.093] (WW) NVIDIA(0): size; cannot compute DPI from Acer X1161P (CRT-0)'s EDID.
Got the xrandr ... Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0 : minimum 320x175 current 800x600 max 800x600
...
the funny thing in that screen (crtl-alt-f1) the resolution automatically changes the 1280x1024!!!
seems the nvidia drivers are not being detected for the gui
No it means your projector does not give the correct information Via edid. Find its horizontal and vertical synch ranges and put them in xorg.conf
I can find the sync ranges, however my /etc/X11 does not contain the xorg.conf file. I gathered that I can create it and it will be used. Can you advise on the contents on the xorg.conf file so that I can enter the info correctly...
As you would have guessed somewhat of a newbie.
Thanks for the advice so far.
