All i want to do is access and play my MKV movie files on my PC and be able to use the XBMC and Navi-x programs to get the movie artwork.Which devices will take care of my needs. I don't want to build an HTPC just to do this.

i'm loving the pivos xios running linux xbmc build. not quite as zippy as my main htpc, but it sips power compared to that rig, and it's plenty fast enough
If you search the forums a bit you'll see a lot of discussion for a modded atv1, atv2, XIOS, and raspberry Pi. Pros and cons to each, just really depends what you want to do.
Raspberry Pi may or may not suit your needs, depends mostly if you need DTS decoding or SPDIF. See my sig for details.
