Apologies if this has been covered already but I have looked in all the places I can think of:

Current Stable Release: 12.0 “Frodo” Download page
XBMCbuntu_FAQ

These are the download options but I can't find why I would pick one over the other.

xbmcbuntu-12.00.Intel-AMD.iso
xbmcbuntu-12.00.Intel-NVIDIA.iso

This post is related: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...tel-Nvidia

I have Intel GMA X4500.

Thanks!
Joel.
Choose the nvidia one - in fact if you look at this page http://xbmc.org/download/ you will see one is labelled amd, the other is intel/nvidia. This relates to your GPU (video) chipset, not motherboard chipset or CPU.
Cheers! If the wiki is open for editing I may add this in...
That's what a wiki is all about, why not Smile
I have an ATI Radeon HD 4550, and I'm told i need fglrx-legacy or to install base 12.04LTS if I have lower than a 5000 series. Does this mean I can't simply install Frodo directly to my HTPC without first installing some other software? If so, what, exactly, is this software, where do I get, and how do I go about installing it?
Either

1. Install the frodo beta 2 version of xbmcbuntu and update xbmc to frodo; or

2. install a ubuntu from a minimal 12.04 install disk and install frodo over the top.

1 is probably easier.
This is in the wiki already XBMCbuntu_FAQ#Why_two_ISO.27s_for_XBMCUbuntu_v12.3F (wiki)

To add to what nickr said

1 - http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1321833 or http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1294863

Two different ways to tackle that, the first link has shows sucess the other users just stop providing feedback.

If the answers I sought were in the wiki, I wouldn't be asking further questions. However, I am to install the a Frodo beta (I'm told variously beta 1 and beta 2, does it matter which one?), and then, at the command line, execute the commands listed in the first thread to which you linked me? Is it possible to update directly from Eden to Frodo and save me the time and hassle of installing the beta?
Beta 2 is based on ubuntu 12.04 and drives older amd graphics chips fine. After that xbmcbuntu was based on 12.10 where the amd problem arises.
@Dein007

Known_Frodo_issues#XBMCbuntu_specific (wiki) which is linked to in Frodo FAQ (wiki) But I was referring to nickr explanation about the two isos. naming and target being GPU's.I was half asleep anyway.

I gathered as much about beta 2 from the context. I also gather that I can bypass installing 12.10 by installing the beta and then updating, via the command prompt, to the stable release, am I correct in this assumption? Is it also possible to update to the stable Frodo release directly from Eden, or is the software too different to be able to do this?
You can choose either option but the source ppa for ATI doenst support xvba from Eden. If you want xvba you need to start from Frodo beta 2

uNi
Erm nope. That was not correct.

There is an xvba eden version. This one you find in the wsnipex xvba-eden version, there is also a xvba-frodo version and a tested by us version, which is xbmc-xvba and a bleeding edge version which is xvba-testing.
As long as all those ppas hold both frodo and Eden both XVBA its all that it matters, because some older Ubuntus we need to dig some other well.
