I read the trouble shooting sticky, but it didn't seem to cover problems for people using analog audio instead of HDMI. I have my audio running from the analog output to my receiver, and I am not getting any sound. I have tried changing the output option in XBMC, but noting helps.
Try setting the following:
Audio Output: Analog
Speaker Configuration: 2.0
Audio output device: "your soundcard device providing the analog out"

That because most of us don't use analog audio and we don't have issue with analog audio.....I covers all connections in this thread-
Simplify XBMC configurations......
