I'm trying to use the XBMC music player to play music from the library.
I figured out how to play a song, and how to queue songs.
I see there's a shuffle button that when I click on has a small CD icon, but I cannot figure out what it does.

What I'm looking for is a way to play randomly (shuffle) from the entire music library.

Assuming you already have "Library mode" enabled on the left slideout menu for Music, do the following: Select Music from the main menu, highlight the "Songs" view and open its context menu ("c" on keyboard or right mouse click) and select "Queue item". Open the left slideout menu and in the "Playing" section, click the right-most button (the one with two arrows crossing each other like a DNA strand) to enable random playback.

or just hit the party-mode button :-)
