I down loaded XBMC on my Windows XP machine.
I ran it.
I got a full screen with XBMC logo in the center for a short while.
I then got a blue background with some lighter blue bubbles, full screen
Something like an oversize arrow in the upper left corner.
Followed by NOTHING!
No video, no audio, no text, no graphics, NOTHING!!!!
Just the blue screen with the bubbles for 5 min. when I gave up.
Control-Alt-Delete did NOTHING!
The alert button did NOTHING!
I had to shut down the computer, to get it to respond.

I'll get you your refund right away.
Try rebooting, it may have installed some libaraies or something.

Could be lots of things, but hard to tell without a debug log (wiki).

PS I know starting a debug log doesn't seenm intuitive if you can't even start the program, but you can use the advancedsettings.xml method.
I set up
<advancedsettings>
<loglevel hide="false">3</loglevel>
</advancedsettings>
in file advancedsettings.xml

The log file grew.
