A friend has offered to sell me his late model 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Mac Mini with 8GB ram for $500. Is this power enough to run XBMC with lots of blurays? Will I even notice a difference if I spend the extra $400 for a new Quad Core i7? And is it worth it to upgrade either one to 16GB of ram?

that mini is more then enough for current media. no need for 16gb ram - no need for the i7...
