I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to linux, so I'm not sure what all/how to get the information I need to provide.

Pretty basic HTPC build with an i3 Ivy Bridge processor and on-board HDMI output hooked up to the TV. I'm using the distro: xbmcbuntu-12.00.Intel-NVIDIA.iso

Oh, if only this afternoon project could have gone smoothly.

1) Both avi and mkv files stutter painfully
2) No audio device is detected
3) Even bluetooth mouse/keyboard input halts and skips around

I've tried reinstalling the system and updating alsa. No help.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
Welcome

Yes see AudioEngine/HOW-TO:_Configure_audio (wiki) for a start.

Ok, so, the only way to fix all my issues is to install kernel 3.7 or higher. Only, when I do apt-cache search linux-image I only get back 3.5 kernels

So... How to I get the 3.7.x kernel?
I also just tried this: http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/12/installu...under.html

But, I got the following error:

Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.7.0-030700-generic (i686)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-current/304.43/build/make.log for more information.
hah! Finally found a guide that works!

For anyone else having issues with Ivy Bridge, update the kernel using this guide: http://askubuntu.com/questions/119080/ho...ro-upgrade
Its been documented in these forums before and I have posted that guide myself more than once, and it is partially on xbmc wiki too.

You can however mark this thread solved and add the ivy bridge stuff to tittle for easier reference by other users looking for same poison.
