Full Version: Troubles playing 3D 1080p, thinking about upgrading

My current HTPC handles 1080p HD content streaming over the network perfectly. However, it chokes on 3D content.

Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz
2x1 Gig of RAM
PCIx16 Geforce GT430 HDMI out
OS: 12.04 Ubuntu
XBMC: 12.1

When trying to play any 3D file (even HSBS), I can see 1/2 cores climb up to 100%, at which time the video lags/stutters, and offloads to the other core. I recently tried putting another 2 gigs of RAM in (max MB supports is 4), but experienced the same problem and promptly returned it. I think it may be time for an upgrade, as this previous build is from 2007. I got a friend saying he'd buy my current one, and then I could build a 3D capable one.

I have heard good things about both the integrated graphics on the i3 and the A6 for full HD playback. However, I haven't seen much about either supporting full BDISO 3D playback, or full SBS. Could someone recommend a build? I only have about 6" of height clearance for this new HTPC. I'm also debating getting a nice really small ITX case, but I want to make sure these CPUs can fully support 3D before I limit my graphics card upgrade options with the case.

I'm running an e-350, so 1.6ghz dual core, with an nvidia 610 pci-express with Openelec and it handles HSBS-3d over my network with aplomb. You'd want the GPU to do the video lifting but I don't think you need a total rebuild.
