Like many countries there are people out there to just grab your money and run, so I am asking here for advice regarding a tv box. All I want is something simple (being a dumb blonde and married to an even dumber bald head) to be able to watch tv through the internet. I am getting conflicting advice and being told the android 4.2.2 is better from one person and the 4.1 is better from another. Now I dont know a thing and after trying to research my head is in a spin. I want to be able to free up my PC so that if I want to go on it in the evening I can do and if hubby wants to watch tv then he can too. So do I need an android box, a google box or a media player and something that is simple to operate with my Samsung TV - I need a plug in and goHuh. Not even sure if these new stick things would be any good - the mind boggles nowBig Grin

Help please.

PS Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section and if it has been answered before. I did do a search but nothing come up relevant to what I need or want to know.
Candy..

I am finding that the media tech ATV1200 is working great for me now..
With the dual core making it a pleasure to use..
As to which Android version.. Don't get to caught up on the version..as long as its over 4.0

I actually have been running my first android box.. The ATV3000 single core and only running at 900mhz.
And it is also working well..but speed it of course slower then the dual core.
I am thinking of setting it up in the spare room for when visitors come and they can have their own thing going..

The thing I like about android experience is that the dedicated apps also allow me to have music streaming..
News shows or lately I pulled down an old movie app that has been keeping entertained..

So..to wrap it up..
If going Android..go dual core minimum and if you don't rush it..quad core are on the horizon.
Stay away from single cores even through they are cheap as chips now..
But are old dated and have frustration factor attached..
Dgcruzing, thank you for your answer - first para, I understand fully. Second para - part of it washes over my head but what I have gleamed from it is get dual core, or the last para if I wait I could get quad core. Since our internet isn't the best (our service providers are still at the end of the last century LOL) don't think it is worth waiting for quad core as it will be expensive to start with and only used about four hours a day in winter - summer is socialising time in the garden with friends.
What do you mostly use the device for?

Do you want to use XBMC or are you streaming from popular sources such as Netflix, hulu, etc?
Based on your technical expertise I would suggest you get an out of the box system like roku or any other system that will stream hulu or netflix to avoid any hassle.

Roku is probably your best option unless you want a browser. In that case you probably want to go full PC anyway.
I deleted the post that mentioned piracy
Thanks for your replies. I do not want Netflix, Hulu, just want to watch internet tv from places like Filmon and Orangearth etc - none of the ones you have to pay for. I am not sure exactly what XBMC is, but will do a search to see if I can find an explanation in dummy form LOL Big Grin and yes because I am using the above named I will need a browser.
