Full Version: Please recommend VFD/LCD Display on USB

Hi,

I come from VDR and used always a small LCD Display in my HTPC case. Now I am enthusiastic with Openelec/XBMC and see that controlling a VFD or LCD via LCDproc is put in a separate AddOn. So we may expect more features and development there.

I would very much make use of that and buy a 2-row or 4-row display to mount it in my case.

Can anybody tell a little bit about his experience and recommend a specific model ? I think it makes sense to choose one with USB connector ?

Ok, looks nice.
But I have a streacom FC5, so no room for a complete bay set. I am more interested in a display I can mount myself into the chassis.

Who has experience, what is the best type or controller, what is better 2 or 4 rows ??

Aha,..gotcha,....take a look at this one: Aluminum VFD Module Bay Device FP54S and make sure you look at the last picture of this display.

It appears that you can take the display and connector out of this case and mount the display yourself.
Not sure why they used a huge case for this,..but I suppose it's easier for someone to install in a 5.25 bay.
Not sure where you are based but Kustom PCs has a good selection:

@erichzann :

yes, this looks promising. I am looking at a pure lcd with USB, not those big boxes to put in an 3,5" external drive bay !!!
This one would fit into my case, I only need to make sure that Openelec choice of drivers supports that....

Nobody with Openelec here ?

I am interessted in display which will fit to 5.25" position and will work with OpenELEC. Can you recommend me such? But which would be up to 30 EUR, that mentioned above are too expensive. Thanks
@BJ
i know, this thread is not actual but, did you buy the Matrix orbital? i'm also looking for a VFD/LCD Display. The soundgraph works with openelec. bought it and you can disassemble it to fit in your case.
but i'm looking into a 4 lines Display and Matrix orbital offer some... but don't know if openelec has Drivers on board.

heli
These guys have some nice kits: http://www.lcdmodkit.com/lcd.html

this one works with LCDproc - but don't know if there have Drivers implemented for openelec...
