http://petapixel.com/2013/04/18/yahoo-pa...ather-app/ Wrote:Apr 18, 2013 - Yahoo! just released a new weather app that takes advantage of beautiful photos provided by the company’s Flickr community to pair in depth weather information with gorgeous photos of your city experiencing similar weather. ... Yahoo! is pulling photos from Flickr and categorizing them based on the weather at the time the pic was taken. ... According to Yahoo, "Our goal is to have amazing photos for every weather condition that cover the globe — morning, afternoon, and night — across every city in the world" ... That Flickr group is Project Weather.

basically, flickr users can add their GPS-tagged image to a Flickr Group and it'll automatically show up in Yahoo!'s weather app. Flickr, of course, has an open API, so aside from copyright (groupies agreed to this), this data is accessible to xbmc as well. 34,000 pics, so some are bound to be Creative Commons. The only technical limitation is that Flickr users can tag their image, but if they don't Yahoo monkeys do it manually, and their sucky weather app uses only one of the following weather tags: clear, cloudy, rain, storm, snow, or fog and only one of "day" or "night."

so is a location weather fanart option on xbmc's homescreen a good idea? it would certainly help with the monotonous blue bubble blues i've been having lately.

I, on the contrary, like simplified weather conditions and vote for multiimage control with reserved ID, that could be used for weather fanart in both weather and home window.
