Did anyone manage to get surround functioning correctly over spdif (DTS / AC3 ...) to amp ?

I tried a million procedure yet I can't get it to work.
I got is DTS 5.1 passthrough, stereo sound, and navigation sound working by unmuting every output in alsamixer
But with AC3 5.1, I only get front left and right working
  • CPU : Core i3-530
  • Mobo : H55N-USB3
  • Audio : Realtek ALC892
  • OS : Ubuntu 13.04
  • XBMC : 13 alpha 3

Your pulseaudio is in the way.

Set the pulse audio device to the "Analog Soundcard" and restart xbmc to get the spdif alone.

In Pulse Audio Volume Control my option are as follow :

Have you tried setting the Pulseaudio setting to "Off".

The problem is in the first lines of your XBMC log. There is only one audio device that supports more than two channels and that's the analog outputs. Like fritsch said it's probably Pulseaudio getting in the way (as usual), my advice to you is to uninstall it completely if you're not certain you're gonna need it.

It could be that you have to restart the computer in order for the asound.conf to take effect. Either that or the values in it (0,1 in this case) are wrong.

Not sure what changed but after updating to 13 alpha 3 from xbmc 12.2, it's suddenly working.

I think I've never been so happy to see a blue light on a machine Tongue I have been at it for almost 2 full day
