Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked, I did search but couldn't turn up much.
I'm considering buying a chromebook as they are nice and cheap. Does anyone know if they can run XBMC ok? I know I could load Ubuntu on it, but I'm wondering about Chrome OS specifically.
Googling, I found this blog post, so it sounds like it might be possible at least.

I've never used Chrome OS though, so I'm fairly like a bit of a noob with this.

The only thing I have read about chromebooks is this thread on a local linux mailing list, none of which would suggest you could run XBMC, given the degree of lockdown:

Chrome OS needs to die a horrible painful death, IMO.

EDIT: and it would take a lot of work to get XBMC running on it. I wouldn't hold your breath on XBMC for Chrome OS.

I understand that the best way to get XBMC or most other applications to run properly on ChromeOS is to reformat the drive and install some other OS. They work fine then for most things.

Last time i check chromebook version of chrome os runs on top of gentoo, true it will need a lot of work but no one said that is imposible

Huh, I guess ChromeOS is based on OpenSUSE, and they used the OpenSUSE builds.

watch video but install xbmc not ubuntu

This installs an old version of XBMC though which then none of the add-ons works. How do you install the latest version of XBMC?
