Hi guys,

I have been using XBMC for years.

My motherboard broke & so I bought a replacement.

It would not boot correctly, so I completed a full install from scratch using XBMCBuntu 12.2 Frodo

I found that my system freezes moments after the mouse pointer appears, presumably just before it gets to the XBMC home page.

No mouse or keyboard response. I could only power off.

I tried again, this time by installing Ubuntu 13.04 & installing XBMC via the PPA.

XBMC appears to work if I boot into Ubuntu's default desktop.

Here's the problem - If I select XBMC as the default login, the system freezes just like in XBMCBuntu!

Can anyone help? I want to use the nice clean setup of XBMCBuntu, but a frozen system wont allow any diagnostics.

My motherboard is an ASUS C8HM70-I

any thanks in advance.

and don't post huge logs here.
I just need to confirm that this fixed it for me:

We need to get to the console without the system crashing, so press shift during boot from POST to access boot options & select recovery mode. Then do the following:

sudo edit /etc/default/grub
change the following line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash quiet"
to read:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 splash quiet"
afterwards:
sudo update-grub
sudo reboot
Thank you this did the job :-)
Glad it worked Big Grin
