Full Version: Sending keyboard via Harmony 650 Remote

Hi,

I've just bought a Harmony 650 remote to control XBMC and Media Center, this replaces my Ortek VRC-1100.remote.

I want to be able to send keyboard presses via the Harmony and the VRC-1100 receiver, (apparently the VRC-1100 emulates a keyboard).

I want to send function key presses, but cannot as the VRC (according to the harmony web site setup) cannot send those commands.

Is that true, is there any way around this.

I thought of buying a cheap keyboard IR receiver which I would be able to use with the Harmony - it being a keyboard setup then I think I would be able to send any keypress.

Anyone had any experience of this? Is the keyboard receiver a good solution?

Cheers.
Have you really tried to search the forum?

But her it goes: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ht=harmony
An RC6-type IR receiver would be the easiest option, as it replicates the MCE Keyboard (keyboard).

Try setting up your Harmony with Microsoft MCE Keyboard as a device and see if that works.
pettergulbra - Yes I have, and thats the post I've been following. I guess my question is that whether the VCR-1100 reciever is an RC6 reciever, and if so how do I send keyboard commands to it as the commands listed in the Harmony website don't include keyboard buttons (such as Function keys).

jhhoffma - I did setting up as an MCE Keyboard, but the VRC-1100 didn't seem to accept it (it didn't flash red). I guess that means that its not RC6.

Will any RC6 UCS reciever work? Such as this:

Sorry for not understanding your question. :-)

I will think that any RC6 will work together with the Harmony. But I`m absolutely not sure.

I use one old that was sent with my Hauppauge TV card back in the early 2000. And that works like a charm.
Yes, any RC6 will work. I've used Rosewill (Newegg.com house-brand) MCE Remotes with great success. Adesso MCE remotes (or anything with a mouse feature) will not function as an RC6 remote.

I should have seen that before in your post and pointed that out.
OK, thanks.

I've decided to buy this fella:

It looks to do the job.

Cheers.
