Hey guys,
I made a fresh install of xbmcbuntu 12.2 and upgraded the kernel to 3.10. Everything looks good but I am having trouble getting the sound to output correctly to my logitech z5500. I noted my previous settings which worked great in 12.1 but I am getting nothing with them.
I went into alsamixer and S/PDIF, S/PDIF Default PCM, S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2 are all enabled but S/PDIF 16 is muted. When I unmuted this the sound worked perfectly but when I play a movie I get a loud static sound for a second at the start. Would anyone have an idea what I can do to sort this?
My audio settings are:

Audio output : Optical/Coax
Speaker : 5.1
boost volume level on downmix : [enabled]
output stereo : [not enabled]
ac3 : [enabled]
dts : [enabled]
aac : [not enabled]
Audio output device : HDA Intel PCH, ALC887-VD Digital S/PDIF : [enabled]
Passthrough output device : HDA Intel PCH, ALC887-VD Digital S/PDIF : [enabled]

thanks very much
I reinstalled 11.2 and the only update I added was
sudo apt-get install intel-gpu-tools libva-intel-vaapi-driver
and the sound works. I'm happy with that. The kernel upgrades/updates must of conflicted with it somehow.
I think kernel 3.9 has broken spdif audio on some codecs, if i remember correctly: on your codec :-)

We have some reports in OpenELEC, too. Did you try 3.10?
oh good to know
When i installed xbmcbuntu I used this guide (which ironically is for HD audio)
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Int...r_HD_Audio
and I applied the non 64 bit files from here
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mai....10-saucy/

I think 3 installs is enough for one day and I'm sticking to 3.5 and updating nothin' :p
