Full Version: OpenElec and weird video quality with 1080p mkv

Hello,

I have an HTPC which worked / works fine. It uses a Geforce 210 low profile card.
I am running OpenElec 3.0.2
This week I watched Jack the Giant Slayer 1080p mkv and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 1080p mkv (files are 11 gb and 8 gb).
But it looks like the movie has some weird color blur (divX effect), half 3d effect, ghosting on some parts of de movie.
Some parts are crystal clear and some are bad, happens mostly on fast / busy scenes and dark scenes.

Are new movies in a different codec or is the machine getting old ?
Or does a new version of OpenElec solves the problem (could not find something in the notes pointing that way).
Only you can tell us what codecs your movies are in. DO some troubleshooting. XBMC produces logs. XBMC show a lot about what is going on if you press O during playback. mediainfo shows lot of info about your file.

So you have these tools, the rest of us have to guess what is going on with your system.
if only 1 movie is looking strange, consider the movie being badly encoded
I have the same problem running Openelec 3.0.5 and xbmc Frodo 12.2 on a Zotac ID34BR through a gigabit network. The media is being served through a Zyxel NSA 320 with two drives in raid 0 setup. I have no stuttering just ghosting, trailing, or whatever the proper technical term it is. I notice it very slightly on some films, not at all on others, I just ran across one film which was really bad and that was Mama. I tried messing around with all of the video settings but tbh I don't know what half of them do. I tried searching for this problem but only came across people who were having hosting or crosstalk on 3d files. I thought it was the copy of the film I had, which was 1080p, so I watched a 720p copy of it and the same thing. Here is info on the film while playing 720p version:

xbmc.log with debugging on, please. While playing that movie. The spec looks (from a first look) quite okay. The CABAC=No is not that usual, but nvidia should cope with it.
And please post your log to pastebin or xbmclogs etc, not inline here.
Logs here, video begins playing at line 1853

Additionally, screenshots with debugging on while film is playing. Screenshot #2 ghosting clearly visible.

Ok..so I have obtained a third copy of the same film which doesn't show any of the issues I seem to be having with the film. So it looks like wsnipex was correct in my situation. But now what I would like to figure out is what aspect of the encoding of these video files is causing these issues so I know what to look for in the media file info. Here is the mediafileinfo of the third copy that is good:
