After upgrading from Lucid to Precise, XMBC crashes on startup. When starting XBMC, I observe initial XBMC black backgtound with XBMC logo and then trys to display a page of the default skin and then quickly exists. It appears that it is trying to displaying in full screen mode on startup.

I was able to turn debugging on thru the advancedsetting file.

Sequence for problem

1) upgrade from lucid to precise
2) run XBMC - crashes at startup
3) unistall; XMBC and delete all local and shared directories
4) reinstall XMBC
5) run XBMC - crashes at startup

System

Intel Atom 330 with NVIDA ION GPU
Ubuntu Linux Precise 12.04 64bits, 3.2.0-48 kernel
XBMC REPRO - LP-PPA-team-xbmc

I found I could stop the crashing by removing the WINS resolution naming as an HOST option in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file.

Do not believe that this is a fix but rather a work around since WINS resolution should not cause a crash.
