Hello,
I'm quite new on this forum and would like to have some help for my problem regarding Audio.

I'm using XBMC on both Apple TV1 and XIOS (Frodo linux) and have same problem on both regarding Audio with 5.1 DTS

Both devices are connected to AVR (Denon) via HDMI.
When I try to play movies with DTS 5.1 format (HD movies) despite the fact that my AVR recognize the DTS (shown on the small LCD screen of AVR) I have only sound on the 2 front speakers, nothing on rear or central.

My audio output settings on XBMC is as follows;

Source : HDMI (only available on ATV as XIOS does not have other possibilities)
Speaker config: 5.1
Boost volume level on downmix : checked
Output stereo to all speakers : unchecked
Dolby digital (AC3) capable receiver : checked
DTS capable receiver : checked
AAC capable receiver : checked
Multichannel LPCM capable receiver : checked
TrueHD : unchecked
DTS-HD : unchecked

When the AVR shows DTS then the issue most likely lies in your AVR.
Have you configured all the speakers in the AVR setup correctly ?

By the way, I doubt that you setup your audio output settings completely correctly in XBMC
I am for fairly sure that your receiver is not AAC capable.
What type of Denon is it, can you link to the pdf of the manual ?

Check also with MediaInfo that the files are indeed 5.1 and not 2.0
