Upon following this thread for the past so many weeks, I notice it is riddled with confusion. I think the reason is due to a couple things.

1. Luna is a coding mad-man and seems to work on his addon constantly. While this is awesome for the development of the addon, it does make it difficult to keep up with it (if you do not spend the amount of time Luna does on it).

2. Luna is clearly well versed in coding and understanding and the separation in knowledge level from Luna to others who may use PTVL may be quite vast. I think he may often believe he is explaining something in simple terms, where the reality is, that it is going well over most people's heads.

I actually work (for a living) with tech companies (like HP, Sony and so on) helping them develop user manuals. In the same way one may translate Chinese into English, my job is to translate the explanations of extremely knowledgeable people, into language the average person can understand. (intelligent people tend to have poor communication skills).

That being said, I can see two ways to solve these problems. One is to have a more detailed set of "instructions" for using PTVL. One that covers ALL of the constantly repeated questions on here, AND is updated constantly to the newest developments. I would be MORE than happy to contribute this part and I have been working on just such a document.

The other, would be a "known issues" section located on the main post? Just listing issues that are known, to prevent 90 people from posting the same problem. For example, clearly the "donor" channel logo downloads issue was "known", but never responded to. This lead people to feel as if it was "unknown" and it was mentioned over and over without response. This way, we could look at the "known issue" list and be assured that Luna is aware of it. This would clear up a LOT of repeat posts and help people to be patient, knowing a fix is in motion. Smile

We could start a post anywhere actually with a list of known issues and just have Luna reference the post number in the first post.

I see a lot of repeat questions and you can't expect new comers to read almost 10,000 posts to get the answer to their common question. So I am also working on a FAQ where when I see a question AND a solution, I can add it to an instructions set.

I read them. None of them mentions anything regarding asking for availability of a feature or commenting on a feature request, so I don't understand why I don't get any answers.

I'm sorry, I thought you included a picture of a problem, requesting I fix it?... Obviously you can understand that such a thing would be silly accompanied with no log...

I can't spend all day answering questions... so forgive me if i'd rather spend the little free time I have programing a new feature, then idle on the forums talking about it Tongue . If you want an idea of the progress of PTVL follow me on twitter, I would most likely post info there. Smile

Actually why would I need post a log of the issue, since I thought you would just be able to tell what's wrong by the picture. I think it's not very rare and device specific issue on clean install of Kodi with no addons except FTV, USTVnow and Pseudo. And you already seem to answer questions every day, so couple more don't seem to be much stress. Also it's pretty easy to answer feature ideas by saying " Thank you for your idea, will consider it in the future development ". You know it's pretty easy to copy even that sentence and make people satisfied.

On 2015-03-12 19:18 I posted: " Any ETA for the DVR feature? "
You posted 2015-03-12 19:34 Great, More fun for me Angry
Thanks for the heads up....

I don't think it would have been extra stress just to answer: "Not yet, sorry" for my question.

The Skin TitanMediaBrowser won't work with PTVL. It brings up the play controls, so you can bring up the guide, or change channels.
I told author about the change he needed to add to fix it, and he added it, but still it won't work.

Thanks!

That's on the skin's author. In fact the kodi skin you are using has no effect on PTVL unless the skin's author wrote those Xml's into his skin (currently I know of none that actually do)

For instance the only difference You would notice between running confluence and aeon nox would most likely show up in the fonts. Both in size and style, but the overall functionality of PTVL would be identical.

About two or three weeks ago, I took the plunge and bought a HDHR Prime box to use with a cablecard for cable tv. I got MythTV setup and running with Kodi as the frontend and it works great....although the Kodi EPG guide is pretty bad to use and read from afar. I switched to MythTV's frontend, which works a lot better, but having a dual boot machine has problems of it's own. I tried a few skins, but I really liked the Confluence skin the best for everything but the EPG screen.

I checked out PseudoTV awhile ago and I loved the EPG/interface, but I'm having issues trying to set it up. For as popular as PTVL is, there has to be an easier way to set it up and something that I'm missing. The autotune worked, but it didn't keep the channel numbers of my backend. It also took about 2 hours to run through the setup and about 10 minutes for it to shutdown. This is why I think something isn't right. I also have about 200-some channels through cable.

Can somebody give an overview of how to get it working with MythTV's backend, keep the same channel numbers, and keep it speedy? Some people say to use xmltv, and edit the settings2.xml file...but I can't imagine it being this difficult...

sure mike - its not too difficult to use the built in channel configuration. I suggest you give that a try and come back to us.

just curious how many channels you have ? also things will speed up the longer you use the software more information is cached.

Thank's bry for the response. I just did the 'autotune' in the setup and only selected my PVR backend. When starting PTVL for the first time with the autodetection, I would say it seriously took about a hour and a half to two hours to run through all the channels. When I stopped it, it took about 10 minutes to shutdown. This is why I think I'm doing something wrong.

Also, the channel numbers in PTVL don't line up with my MythTV channel numbers. I know some people say ignore channel numbers, but I am old fashioned and kind of like them. Smile

I have about 250 channels for it to run though as well.

The 'channel configurator' that you talk about, is that just in the PTVL Settings tabs? That's the thing that lists all the channels and what category and things they are...right?

Sounds to me like you enabled settings, without knowing what they do?

Parsing PVR and XMLTV files should takes seconds... but if you enable "Find missing guide data" which by default is disabled... it could take a very long time, depending on PTVL's cache (first time run or not) and how many channels have missing info (data not supplied by backend or xmltv file).

As for in-app channel manager, you can't miss it... It's on the first tab that opens in settings!

LOG: http://xbmclogs.com/pv6u2ukqq

Im getting the following ERROR:

"Unable to populate channels. Please verify that you have scraped media in your library and that you have properly configured channels."

I have three channels setup and they are all properly configured. When starting PTVL it shows messages that it's populating these three channels but it then exits with that error message.

You are right; I did enable stuff without knowing what I was doing. Not to knock it, but running through 600 pages of PTVL posts is difficult. I know the first page has some instructions, but it's really hard to follow for somebody starting out. I'd like to put forth the effort in this though because with so many users, it has to do what I'm looking for. Smile

In your video, you go through the channel manager, as bry mentioned. Running through this for 250 channels is going to take a long time and is a very manual process....something that I would think could be automated and completed in seconds. Is this really the way to add channels?

Also, in the video, you chose pvr. When I hit "Click to browse", I just see "Movies", "storage", and "TV", not any channels. Is there a video before this one that gives a little background on what the configuration is and how to get there?
The playground just got cooler! Smile

mikewiz38, use the autotune feature for your channels, it will take a bit to run the first time, but try it and see. Ignore the PVR channels at first just to get an idea of how it all works. That's what I did.. I just ran the autotune a few times, a few different ways. Then I understood it better. Before you go too far, just mess with it a bit. Then once you have an idea, you can work on building the library the way you like. In the end, I ran autotune for just my ustvnow and local library, then I manually added the internetTV channels I wanted.

I don't use PVR so I can't help there.
Thankyou for the new thread, im sure it will help clear up some of the basic confusions. I am a fan of play with things and learn as I go. ususaly programs and such like this are overwhealming at first, but things fall into place pretty quickly if you stick to it. anyway I also know what it is to hit a wall with a problem. and the last thing I wanta to is post stupid questions. however like stated somthings that are aparent to many might not be for others, so thank you for making a thread for my stupid questions Wink
