Who is controlling how artist fanart is scaled in fullscreen music player, skin or script.artistslideshow? Because it seems like "scale" is set now, which in case of non16x9 images usually results in cut artist head Smile "Keep" would be more appropriate here, also this won't increase needlessly low resolution images.
I get what you are saying. However, one of my TVs has a 16:10 aspect ratio so "keep" makes everything have black bars around it, so I much prefer scale. If you want to, you can change it yourself. It is line 372 of 1080i/Includes_WindowContents.xml -- (the multiimage control of the "BackgroundFanartMusicOSD" include).
TY, you saved me half an hour browsing thru includes. Smile
@jurialmunkey

Thanx for your quick response. I installed the latest GIT Version of your skin and the UP-Arrow in the main menu is hidden after disabling the setting 'SHOW SUBMENU ARROW'. Nice ...

But my movie collections are as before. No change in the infotags at the bottom left of the screen, when a movie collection is focused. There is no set icon and not the words "movie set". But if it works as you said, would'nt it be nicer to hide the info tags at the bottom left of the screen and show the words 'movie sets' under the title of the movie set, e. g.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS
movie set

By the way, i found a little bug. There is no possibility to disable the 'Motion picture rating country'. I can only switch between the countries...

At last i have some, hopefully useful, feature requests.
  • Can you find a solution to disable the 'Show view header' but show the first character of a movie title if i scroll through my movie library.
  • The Lovefilm view in TV-Shows shows no unseen episodes. Can you please add this information at the bottom of the show description on the left!?
  • The hook for a seen episode or movie is IMHO to small. A WATCHED badge, like the one in Aeon Nox might look much better and for movies and tv-shows it should be on the same side, e.g. upper right corner...
  • The youtube plugin needs more views, because the preview thumbs are to small. Maybe you could use the same views as for movies
  • And for me the most important one... The Artwork Downloader let me not select a special artwork manually. It only uses a bulk download function for all my movies/shows. So can you PLEEEASE add a Artwork downloader function in the information vies of a movie or tv-show. Like the on in Aeon Nox, with the possibility to download only the tv-show logo i like most.

But let me say this - even without my requests your skin looks really fantastic! Please go on with your good work!

The skin perfectly developed.
I was a Aeon nox user and now full-time time Arctic. I love IT in particular the music guide (tab) view.
However One wish
Is it possible on the home page to see all the shows at tv-shows that I follow?
Now you see e.g. shows that have not yet come to an end, or a list of e.g. all the episodes of prison break which I still need to view.
More convenient is of each show one image you go directly to the series brings.
As with movies
Do you understand what I mean?
Or is this a wizard restriction?

(2013-09-15, 13:13)st graveyard Wrote: [ -> ]This is the view I have in Arctic now :
Although I like this banner type of view, I think it is very limited in the game environment.

It shows the movie and the 3D artwork (3D artwork is common in the rom world).

This is the new info view in arctic : The video is not working here, I don't think it is my settings, as the video does work when I switch to MQ skin.
One remark, the new info view looks already nice, but I just want to say that by adding borders around the artwork, it will be hard to have a good fit. As in RCB you have the possible to add screenshots, title screens, cover art (as with my example).

This has a better fit and zoom function (you can move over the 4 different shots and a big version appears in the main space and you have the option to fullscreen them).
Ahah! I finally got a few video previews to scrape with my roms so that I can finally test it and get it working. Check the latest git -- I've added a "trailer" button to the infoscreen which will play the video preview. Also you can now navigate down to the artwork and it will show a larger preview in the big box (I'll add an option in the future to view the artwork fullscreen, just getting a few other things sorted out first).

Also, you do know that the banner view isn't the only view type right? There should currently be 5 different views (Thumbnails, Info Wall, Banners, Covers, and Info). Also, I've modified Covers and Info to no longer have borders so these might be suitable views for your 3d boxart.

First off, congrats, the RCB implementation looks very promising. Videos are working like a charm now. Here are my remarks :

- When loading big collections (eg. 3500+ games) the screen flickers (because the games are being loaded). When I compare to MQ4, there is a counter that counts from 1 of 3500 to 3500 of 3500. This might be nice to add so the user knows what is going on...
- Can you add the possibility to remove the zoomed fanart from the background and perhaps add a cool game related standard Arctic background?
- For some reason the covers are always first loaded even if there is a video (this is apparent in the banner view - see screenshot). I know that you can set RCB to load the covers or other artwork if the video is not available, but it seems there is something wrong in Arctic.

The views :

Thumbnail view :

I'm not really a fan of this one. Don't really like the black borders. Maybe it could be made better by adding info, maybe not. Maybe this is just for a large cover overview, but it is not my thing.

info wall

I like this one. Again, the borders around the covers are too dark (maybe a light gray looks better - a bit like a shadow). On the other hand, around the video on the left, a little bit more polishing could be done, like adding a light border or something. Overal liking this!

Info :
Image

This is so simple and I love it. But we could use a counter (game 5 of 2000 displayed) and I would prefer to see maybe more than 1 game at once on the screen. Still, it looks slick!

Covers :
Image

I like this too. But I would like to see the game info somewhere on screen.

Banner :
Image

I like this, but as mentioned above, the cover is seen at the sides of the video....also, the dark behind the text ...

Suggestions ....
Poster panel (from the movie section) could be a very cool view for the games. Showing the poster on the left side and the movie on the right side. And perhaps give the user the possibility for some info on the top half of the screen. I would kill for that view ;-)
Info poster and Classic info would also look very cool for the game section.

Finally, the info screen looks very good, but again, the border seem to dark for me. Maybe removing them or making them very light.

Again, it looks already awesome. Some more polishing and I think Arctic is gonna replace MQ4/Nox for me totally.

Thanks and keep me posted!
Help! Something must have updated in the skin. When starting XBMC today, artic is all messed up. The white sheer look is gone and it's difficult to read almost all descriptions. Going into skin settings items on the left hand side do not list out. The skin is now pretty much unusable.

1. I'm guessing you are using a Gotham alpha. Gotham is not currently supported. The skin checks to see if the movie path contains the Sets node of the video-library, and because they have changed in Gotham then they no longer match. I wont be making changes for Gotham support until there is a feature freeze and a stable beta out. Also, all my sets have names which suggest they are sets anyway (e.g. Alien Anthology, The Terminator Collection etc.). I might add it as the sub-label for views that already have a sub-label (like banner list) because there doesn't seem to be much other information available from a set.

2. That's not a bug. There is no reason to disable the rating country -- all it does is tell the skin what language your mpaa labels are in so that it reads them correctly and displays the correct classifications (e.g. US has PG-13, NC-17 etc. whereas UK has 12A, 15, R18 etc.)

3. I can, but its not priority. I assume you are disabling the view header because you are using Gotham so it isn't correctly displaying the proper library name.

4. I have been meaning to add this as its the view I use for tvshows, just had slipped my mind. Will do when I get a chance.

5. Its a check mark. I don't think its too small, but that is why its colour coded -- green is watched, grey unwatched (or in progress) and blue is new. If you are talking about the banner in Aeon Nox that says "watched" -- nope, not going to happen. First, I really dislike that style. But more importantly, it destroys consistency between list and poster views because a watched banner can only go on posters whereas checkmarks, stars and half-circles can go practically anywhere.

6. Whats wrong with using thumbnail view for youtube? You probably just need to turn off "use small thumbs" in the view option menu on the left. Also, there isn't much point adding more views for youtube because I find it never saves them and just defaults back to list view as soon as you make a new search anyway.

7. This is already available. Go to a movie, press "info", goto choose art. A menu slides out where you can choose the artwork type you want to download with artwork downloader (the top option {choose art} uses xbmc's builtin artwork selection, but the specific types underneath use the artwork downloader gui).

Not possible currently. You could always create a smart playlist with your favourite tvshows and add it as a submenu item to the tvshows menu.

1. I'll look into it.

2. Will do eventually, just want to get the other things sorted first before I start adding more features.

3. The slight delay is intentional. The image behind is not (fixed in latest git, also info wall video background is fixed). I found that having the video load immediately slowed things down for me when scrolling through games because it was trying to load a video every time -- where as having the slight delay means you actually have to stop on the game before the video starts - its only a 1 second delay.

4. The dark background has to be there so that it is consistent with the rest of the skin -- one of the basic thematic elements of the skin is softly rounded, consistently sized rectangles with a soft shadow behind -- when there is weirdly shaped artwork like 3d boxes that do not conform to a rectangular shape then the shadows start looking weird because they have to be rectangular so they form a weird rectangular ring around the artwork, so it needs a background -- I'm already making a pretty big compromise with the covers and info views not having shadows. There's no point in skinning rcb if its going to look completely different to the rest of the skin.

5. I quite like having the info view with just one game on screen at a time. I do have planned something between covers and info (similar to classic info in movies) -- its just the differing aspect ratios of boxart that makes it a real pain (plus finding the time to actually do it -- skinning takes a long long time to do). The counter will happen eventually (it will be like the view header in the top left in other parts of the skin) -- I just haven't got around to it yet.

6. Big issue with poster panel view is aspect ratio of boxart. The reason it looks good is because movie art is consistently sized. I do think a view like that would be good -- the difficulty is implementing it.

Its working fine for me, something must have got corrupted whilst downloading the update. You might have to try a clean reinstall of arctic. Switch to confluence, delete the skin.arctic directory from xbmc's addon dir. Restart your machine then reinstall arctic. Your skin settings should remain because they are stored separately in xbmc's userdata directory.

Whew. I figured something had gone wrong like that since no one else complained. Glad I waited to find out which thing to delete as I did customize your skin and would have hated to have to start over. However, the good news is I tried going back to my old favorite Ace and I was missing your skin so much! LOL.

Good suggestion. My parents are not geeks, and ignore the tags. Some kind of visual indicator right next to the title, or on the poster or whatever image is displayed, would be much better.
Your skin is awesome thing! This is the best selfmade skin, that I saw! Oh no no. This is simply the best skin!
Now this is my default skin in all my devices at home.

And that's why I want to ask you something. I'm from Ukraine. And your skin fonts have not all cyrillic symbols. In UA it hasn't "і,ї,є" and in RU there's no "ё". Can you add those symbols into skin font or maybe you can make ability to change font to arial or something other like Confluence skin can do.

1 + 2 : Thank you
3 : very good point on the delay. Never thought about it but now you mention it, I think this is a bit of a problem in the MQ4 version
4 : I'm already extremely happy with what you did and of course, it is your skin. The only thing I can say is, perhaps give the user the possibility to add/remove the shadow effect? But that is not a must, I agree. It is starting all to really shape up.
5 : Something like classic info would be a welcome viewtype for RCB indeed.
6 : Well, I solve this by simply rotating the box in the correct direction to solve this issue! I know this might sound weird, but that seems to me like the only sollution in this case. Anyway, something like poster panel, but perhaps with only 1 or 2 games then, could perhaps be possible (still having the poster on the left and the movie on the right). Just ideas from the top of my head.

I will test more and if I have ideas I will let you know.

Thanks a lot for all your efforts ... Arctic has now won me over and is on my main HTPC :-D

Hi jurialmunkey!

1. Your are right! Sorry, my fault... I didn't noticed that your skin only works under Frodo. A few minutes ago i rolled back and now the collections are shown correctly. But maybe you can think about my idea to disable the infotags in the lower left in case of a collection and write 'movie set' under the collection title...!? It really looks much cleaner and better!

2. Ok, that is your opinion and after thinking about it i will agree! But the german label '18' is out of the center and the font looks bigger if i compare it with the other german labels. And don't hurt me, but why are the mpaa labels colored!? Every other label is grey...

3. Same here, you are right - it's because of Gotham! With Frodo it looks much better.

4. Nice to hear. Thank you for that!

5. Don't blame me, but i agree only in parts. Ok, the 'WATCHED' banner will be to big and might not be stylish enough. But the check mark isn't it either. Maybe you can think about to replace the check mark with a standalone, clean, solid coloured circle or square. Only the simple shape, not placed inside a triangle. The colors can be unchanged but the position for movies and tv-shows should be the same. Upper or lower right... Mixing the positions seems to be disturbing.

6. Thanx for this advice!

7. Sorry to say it again, but you are right! With Frodo it works.

Just stumbled on this thread by accident and saw that you implemented some RCB views. Looking great so far. Thanks a lot!

If there is anything you need from the script just let me know. I am working on a basic redesign of the script, so if you have any ideas what could be implemented in a skin but is just not provided by the script there is a good chance that I could add or rework it in the future.

One thing though... I cannot figure out how to get into my Musicvideo's (which is actually what I use my machine the most for). Any idea's where it is?
Thanks Smile

You will have to create your own custom sub menu tile. Change the type to "custom" and use one of the following for the path:
ActivateWindow(Videos,MusicVideoTitles,return)
ActivateWindow(Videos,MusicVideoArtists,return)
ActivateWindow(Videos,MusicVideoAlbums,return)

There isn't much skin support currently as I have never had much luck getting all my music videos to scrape properly for me so I just end up creating a favourite that is a shortcut to my music video directory in video files.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Creating a favorite works, but adding a submenu is even better. Any chance of adding more support for custom menu-items, kinda the way Confluence Mod handles things (ie: basically everything can be placed in the main menu).

I sympathise with not getting musicvideos to scrape properly - I had the same problem for ages. Are they dvd-rips by any chance? If so: I had a lot of luck using the concertdb-scraper. It's quite forgiving and gave me a great scrape even before editing the filenames.
Anybody knows if is there a way to create a custom submenu (not a widget) to see "In progress movies" ?

@jurialmunkey maybe you can add some typical templates to easy customice submenus. Many users (like me ) don't know how to add Musicvideo submenu or others... (yes now I know that have to add this ActivateWindow(Videos,MusicVideoTitles, return), but not everybody reads this forum)I think it'll make the skin customization easier...
