I recently bought Rockchip's MK809III (Android 4.2.2) Quad-Core Mini-PC and installed XBMC 12.2.
So far everything works great, however if I play a 1080p movie the sound and images are very Choppy.

I'm playing the movies from a Synology NAS, the MK809 is connected to the net via cable.
A google search shows people with the same issues on older android devices.

I would like to know what I can try to fix this issue without having to use an external player?

You might need to update the firmware on the box as well.

Cheers, will try it later is it best to remove the current xbmc installation too?

XBMC updates/nightlies/test builds/whatever can install right on top of the old one.

Sadly all nightly builds I tried(october-sept) just made xbmc crash.
I also tried libstagefright's Interim build 14/07, this worked but 720p and 1080p are still very choppy/laggy.

Any other recommendations I could try?

Make sure the rockchips firmware is up to date. I'm not exactly sure where to even get that, but it fixes the 1080 bug.
