Hi,

This will no doubt sound like a completely dumb question, but I have utterly confused myself by reading numerous howtos / blogs / tutorials on setting up XBMC, none of wihich really fit what I want to do.

So... I run a headless Ubuntu 12.04 server (on a lowly Intel Atom D425 board) and all I want to do is connect its audio Line Out to my stereo amp and use XBMC via a web interface from other PCs on the LAN to cue up playlists etc. to play on the stereo amp - so no media streaming over the network, just using XBMC as a jukebox to play mp3s via the directly connected amp.

Do I need to install the full blown xbmc package or the xbmc-standalone package or something else!? Or maybe I should use something other than XBMC for such a trivial thing??

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Thanks
crypto
XBMC is completely the wrong tool for the job.

Try mpd.
Thanks nickr - I suspected it might be.

mpd now installed and working perfectly with an mpd client. I'm now looking into fookebox as a way of "webifying" it Big Grin

Thanks again, much appreciated.
