Full Version: [HOW TO] KODI Linux on Amlogic TV Boxes

I was working on a project to run linux on my Geniatech ATV1220 but it didn't work out as planned. So I want to run android on the box again, but I can't do it. I think it is because I updated the uboot with the latest amlogic release (which probably broke something).

Right now the box is directly booting to command line. I tried putting the update files on sd card, which I did with another of those boxes to update the android version and it worked flawlessly, when I booted it up after holding down the reset button, but this box seems to ignore this all.

Is there any way I can restore my box from command line? I have UART connection so I can see the log and enter commands etc. My bootlog is here:

Try this Bootcard merged it with ATV1220 Android 4.2 (beta, no Playstore) Rom should work for u from there u can Flash your old 4.1 Rom

Where do I need to get/put the kernel? I also tried loading a kernel to the nand via tftp, that I used for bootling linux, but that also doesn't help.
An update on my lack of subtitles with this Gotham release on my ATV1200 box. Well my bad as it was my fault. I was using the Amber skin which does not show the pop up sub menus or the help texts. So back with Confluence and I see when I highlight the subtitles icon when in a movie then a pop up screen appears giving me all the subtitle functions I should have. Sorry for wasting time but at least it points out that the wonderful Amber skin needs updating if it is to be usable with Gotham but thanks to those who offered help.

Also sad to see that the Confluence 7 icons tweak also does not work in Gotham so stuck with only 5 short-cut icons in Confluence and why I wanted to use the lovely Amber skin instead which supports 10 short-cut icons on it;s home shelf..

Any news on the AC3 and DTS problem with HDMI on Gotham yet? This is the big downer with Linux Gotham at the moment sadly as in all other respects it runs beautifully and stable too. If you do not need surround sound then I can highly recommend the current Linux XBMC Gotham 13.0 Big thanks to the developers and Biatsch for porting it over to Linux.

Finally I have some audio problems with my Sports streaming sites like Sports Devil and K1M05 as I get a good video stream but NO audio at all, and this is the same on Gotham 13..0 and Frodo 12.3 and 12.4, It was fien before recent updates with MashUp and Sports Devil. BUT it is fine with no audio problems on the old single core ATV510 boxes running Frodo 12.0 so something to do with the newer MX Linux builds it seems. Anyone got any ideas, as I am trying to get audio back for my many sports loving friends who use these ATV1200 and ATV520 boxes with Linux XBMC ?
One other totally different problem if anyone knows an answer. My friend in the UK for the first time flashed an ATV1200 box with the Linux Frodo 12.4 Geniatech build and I talked him through it via Skype (as I live in Thailand). I got him to use the front power button rather than pulling out and pushing back in the power plug on the back to make it easier for him. This is what I do now with absolutely no problems. However he had 3 other ATV1200 boxes (Sumvision X2 units) to flash and he did those on his own and bricked all three!!!

After some detective work on my part I discovered that when he powered the boxes back on with the reset button held in with a toothpick and the correct SD bootcard inserted, he held the power button in instead of the usual momentary press and thus not as I had instructed. The result is as expected that it powered the box on and then very shortly after powered it back off again with the held in front power button !!!!!!!!!!! Since then all three boxes are unable to even read a bootable SD card no matter what build (tried Frodo 12.3, 12.4, and Gotham 13.0 as well as a revert to Android 4.1 SD card too) So it seems that this has corrupted the initial power on boot strap routine and now it will not even get to the stage where it looks for the SD card to boot from. The boxes now just do nothing but the LED lights come on and stay on with power connected of course.

Is there anything he can do to recover them ?? I have tried with him all the tricks I know, including leaving it powered on for 30 minutes to see if the recovery screen pops up but with no joy. Seems it is really bricked unless any one of you great guys here has an answer. Huh? Would maybe a Jynxbox build work as this overwrites the base name of the boxes ? Not tried that yet.

The message here is play it safe and use the power plug out and back in system when flashing the ATV1200 boxes rather than the front button which if accidentally held in on power up whilst flashing starts up it will cause you severe problems of course.
Format the sd card and try again

U can recover from anything if red light is shining

Dont use the powerbutton

To enter recovery.... Just plugin power with recoverybutton pressed

Well I am not sure which lights he does have on but will check with him later on Skype. He used a brand new SD Card so assume it was formatted FAT32 as normal though the SD cards he was using were not mainstream ones but some unknown brand he got cheap.

As to using the power button on the front of the box, well I have been doing that for ages as makes it easy without struggling with my old hands manipulating the power plug with one hand whilst holding the reset button in, I have to say never myself had a problem doing that but as I said he held the front power button in when rebooting which of course then turned the box back off again at a very bad time of course. Yes it is much safer to use the power plug and then accidents like this cannot happen so easily during a moment of brain fart..

Those downloads would not complete in Chrome as it said they were malicious download and stopped it ... duh. Now trying to download using Firefox to see if that works okay. I am sure i have the same or similar files just in a differently named zip folder. Will get my friend in UK to reformat his SD Card first with FAT32 and use that with these revert files to try again and see if he can revert to Android 4.1. Then of course he can try again flashing to Linux XBMC Frodo 12.4 as he intended in the first place.
BTW Biatsch I had no problem downloading with Firefox. I love Chrome best of all but seems I have some over aggressive malicious download setting enabled within Chrome, which I can turn off safely as I have an excellent full version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 provided free by my Internet banking service. Yet to contact my UK friend to try this out but sent him your files via Dropbox..

will compile it for u..... but cant test it cause i selled my 2 atv1200 and ordered 2 beelink s82 Wink ....... waiting for them Sad will arrive in a few weeks for a good Price Wink

Many thanks for the 13.1 compile but just went to download it on my PC and the link you gave that I saw earlier on my iPad has now disappeared it seems. Is this because of the impending LLia compile you are working on ?? Yes sure I know you are not a developer but you are doing us a great service with your compiles for which I am very very grateful my friend :-)

Well I will test it out for you on my ATV1200 MyGica Enjoy boxes (and can test it on an ATV520 too if you want) util you get your new boxes through. I buy my ATV1200 boxes from China at a good bulk purchase price for 10 or more at a time as have many friends over here wanting me to get these boxes and configure them for them.

Looks like it now will be best if I wait for your new compile from the new LLia's github version with the audio passthrough fix :-) BTW I did say my subtitles were okay now as it was my fault with it now using a different method to activate the subs downloads. And of course because of that subtitles subs will not work with the lovely Amber Skin I like so much.

As to my friends box well he tried your revert bootcard as I instructed him and he has carried it out correctly I believe including running that .cmd file on the SD card on his PC. But still no joy it will only power on the Status LED light but no access is attempted to read the SD Bootcard and TV screen stays blank. He was using an 8GB Sandisk SD card but told him that I have seen some reports that it will only work sometimes with a 4GB card, though I cannot see why that is to be honest?? He is going to try with a 4GB card when he gets one this week, but seems he cannot get any recovery to work and cannot get into recovery screen even without an SD card inserted or by waiting 15 minutes to see if the recovery screen comes up on its own as they do sometimes. Any suggestions ??
