This may be painfully obvious, but is there a way to configure the amount of data shown on the EPG in timeline view? I'd like to see less channels, only about two hours and larger font size. Is there any way to customize this view? Also, is there a keyboard shortcut that can pull up the EPG timeline view from anywhere within XBMC?

"e" is the keyboard shortcut

The rest I think are all up to the skin. Try some different ones to see if they fit your needs better.
