i currently have the dvd movie playback kit with remote. is the dongle for this the same as the media center extender dongle?

the remote that comes with this works fine (except for the volume), but i would like something a little nicer. can i program an 8 in one or 4 in one remote to work with this dongle?

is there an app that will show what codes are being sent to the dongle, and can i just map what is being sent to whatever command i want?
