It's an IR remote.
What IR receiver should I get to achieve this?

I have a flirc device sitting here, works brilliantly (and easily) running on a MacBook Air or on a RaspberryPi with XBMC. The only issue I have had with mine is that it's single key press so you you can't hold a button to scroll (it only registers as one tap).

I recently got a cheap USB MCE remote and receiver from eBay for ~AU$7, plugs in and just works on the MBA, rPi and my Android XBMC installs.
