hello

I was looking for a "media server" to install on my win7 PC, in order to watch movies on my VIERA compatible TV, connected via ethernet.

I first installed Twonky but submitted to license

I then come to xbmc : is this the right choice ? because I did not see how to set it as a media server over ethernet.
I cannot see the movies it listed from my TV, while Twonky does

thanks for any advise !
You would be looking to setup XBMC as an UPnP Server. That's described in the wiki here. Assuming your TV can do UPnP (also refered to sometimes as DLNA), which it appears you can.
Be aware that Panasonic TVs are (certainly were) really picky about file formats and contents. While my Viera could see the files over UPnP, it would barely play a thing unless it was MPEG-2 in .avi containers.

Anyway, XBMC is a much better media *player* than any smart TV, so consider a small box (Pi, Android, NUC) connected to your TV instead and then you get all of XBMC's loveliness.
