Xbmc is pretty well only limited by the combination of your graphics card and TV/monitor. If they can do 4k, xbmc does too.
Do bear in mind though that 4k decoding will tax your system, and you'll need reasonably grunty hardware. Also most themes have (at best) 1080p graphics.

While I can playback 4K on my XBMC box, I'm running a 720p (1360x768) TV and the downscale is pretty crazy jaggy since there's no optimization for that kind of downscale.
