I suspect that most geo locked streaming services will change to this kind of protection eventually. It's all about control and greed.

I think its about not getting sued by the content providers that they license from.

Well, they can't block VPN users, they can block users that access the service via known VPN services.
You can always get a VPS (that enable tun), setup a VPN server, socks and you're set.

But you still breaking the EULA, the question what is worst breaking the EULA or pirating ?
As a registered customer who's breaking the EULA you're a known offender but when you pirate "securely" with VPN you stay anonymous, so what you prefere ?
