Hi, and thanks for all tips from everyone here but especially one person... Wink

Tried to make a dualboot box out of my newly purchased chromebox.
The HP Chromebox CB1-020no.

I have tried to install the dualboot and OE. Don´t know how many times now.
And i tried to install Openelec standalone too.. Nothing works for me.

Now i have a screen that says
"SeaBIOS version rel-1.7.5-11-g2f934d-numbers....-MattDevo
Booting from hard drive
early console in decompress_kernel
KASLR using RDRAND

Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... Performing relocations... done.
Booting the kernel"

Thats about it.
Looked at the movie on how to install dual boot first. did not work for me.
30s delay default ChromeOS was my choice for boot.
I have done all the steps many many many times now.

Last two things i did was. alternative 5 set up core boot
then alt. 6 create openelec installer.
Managed press ESC to boot from USB. but then it stalls...

I really wanted the dualboot with OE and ChromeOS as default with 30s delay.

Considering my options now.....
Since nothing seems to be working.. I will try to install Chromeos back first.
Then get back here in the forum.

I think that maybe the wireless keyboard is slow... will swap to Logitech K260
before i start...

Any thoughts anyone?
Got myself a restore for ChromeOS on an USB. managed to boot from it.
It stalls and i can read hw name panther, somewhere in the middle....

Frustrating...
did not boot on that...

Now im trying openelec install from bootable stick.
I get to the bootmenu then choose number 2 the usb.
won´t boot anyway.

hmmmm........ i starting to get a headache here....
use a needle on the reseet buttonhole when i boot
this seems to stall the bootsequence, handy, i can now choose no2 every time.
going back to the restore chromeOS usbstick.

same again stalls after a while when it loads it. Sad

On the positive side, it did start reading from the usb.
Do i have the wrong bootloader or?

Seems i can´t get passed that.
There is no installer for both at the same time? ChromeOS and OpenElec that is.
I feel like this is a dead end..... Sad
need to get a bootable install USB.
Wonder thou what way to go....
1. change the bios? to what?
2. keep it (althoug i need a needle to paus boot every time)
3. try to restore (wich did not work, was the last thing i did)
4. Get ubuntu install USB? then try to correct the fast bootseqence....

I´m all ears... Sad
Which boot firmware do you have - the dual boot one which is compatible with ChromeOS or the standalone boot which is compatible with standalone installs of OpenElec, Chromium OS and Ubuntu? NB there is a difference between Chrome OS and Chromium OS which is very important.

If you have installed the standalone firmware then you need to boot Chromium OS (which you can do from a live stick) to run Matt Devo's scripts to do anything (you can't use Chrome as the standalone BIOS isn't compatible with Chrome OS)

Also - ALWAYS used a cabled keyboard when you are doing anything "installer" related. A cheap, simple USB keyboard is all you need and will save you a whole bunch of hurt. Also if you find that you don't see boot screens that you think you should be seeing, try using a different display. Some TVs will only accept 720p or 1080i/p over HDMI and not other resolutions like 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 etc. so you don't see stuff you need to.
I have the firmware that opt 6 coreboot installs in the script on page 1.
Dunno if its the top line when i boot wich says: eaBIOS version rel-1.7.5-11-g2f934d-numbers....-MattDevo

installed the recovery app on my win8 machine made a stick from there for Chromebox HP.
That allways halts during the boot...

If you have Matt's standalone firmware (which I think you do as you did a standalone install) then you can't boot the Chrome OS recovery app.

You need to boot from Chromium OS (which will boot on the standalone firmware but is very similar to Chrome OS and will run Matt's scripts) to run Matt's script to revert to the stock firmware (which you may have made a backup of in an earlier process?) Once you have reinstalled a stock firmware image you can booth the Chrome OS recovery app.

The standalone firmware has some better options - but can't boot Chrome OS (and the recovery app itself is Chrome OS based) - which is why it isn't used for dual boot setups (as it won't boot the ChromeOS half of a dual boot)
I rather have an Ubuntu and OE dualboot. if its possible.
However i do not know where to start right now.
What i need or think i need is Ubuntu install on an USB. partition the drive for dual boot and then install OE on one of the partitions.
What ubuntu would be recommended? i would be happy to get a link.
Downloaded ubuntu.
Wonder what dist would be suitable for TV, movies, internet and media comsumption..?
For OpenElec and Ubuntu dual boot you should be OK with the standalone (i.e. non-dual boot) firmware. The dual-boot Chromebox firmware is only needed if one of the two things you are booting is ChromeOS.

I am running one of the new (alpha?) custom builds of OpenElec with VAAPI Motion Compensated de-interlacing support - which is amazingly good quality (as I watch native interlaced content a lot). OpenElec is great as "it just works". I have a second Chromebox running Ubuntu for hacking around - and was running the experimental de-interlacing builds on that before the OE-builds appeared.

My viewing is limited to Blu-ray and DVD backups on my unRAID server (via SMB), Live and Recorded TV (via TV Headend and Windows Media Center recordings), and a little bit of web streaming (mainly the SVT Play and NRK plug ins) I'm very happy with my Chromebox in this environment.
Since im from Sweden i will also run SVT play. And MXThai tv on my OE.
If you run OpenElec, I can thoroughly recommend the PS3 Bluetooth Blu-ray remote control as a remote control. It works very well with my Chromebox and OpenElec and doesn't need an external USB dongle or line-of-sight to the box. Can't comment on battery life - or how it works on distros other than OpenElec.

SVT Play on XBMC works really well in my experience. I'm not in Sweden - but am learning Swedish - so SVT Play is very useful (particularly as it has subtitles)
Life is not easy today.
Downloaded ubunto to an usb stick. got a blank install screen when i booted from it.
Story of my life... fix 100 things before you get to fix your problem...
Just came back from a marrige party so im not sober to be honest.
