I tried that but couldn't get it to connect to the Internet Sad

which build did you try? Despite being nightly/unstable builds, there's no reason that networking shouldn't work under ChromiumOS. And you can "upgrade" a ChromiumOS installation to ChromeOS, you'll just lose auto-updates (google for that, that's way off topic).
I downloaded the latest Weekley from this site: http://chromium.arnoldthebat.co.uk/index...=weekly%2F
My ethernet works perfectly with openelec but with chrominum I says network not avaliable and if I sign in as a guest I can't enable wifi through the settings. I think I'll try a nightly then

I will try again if they should work

It should, yes

I got it working thanks. Must have been a funny install Smile
A questions before buying Acer CXI model:

1. Is it really difficult to remove write protect screw from Acer model and is it really nessesary if using standalone Openelec?
2. Have someone tried madvr on windows with 2955u?

1) it is 100% necessary, you can't flash the firmware without removing the WP screw. It's not hard at all, just not as trivial as the other ChromeBoxes
2) I haven't seen mention of it on the forums here. But if it runs on a mobile (-U) Core i3, then you're probably ok. That said, I wouldn't buy a ChromeBox to run primarily as a Windows box
Trying to stream WMC TV recordings. They play fine, but anytime I press the skip forward 30s button or fast forward past 4x the video crashes and sends you back to the list of recordings.

Asus Chromebox running Ubuntu and Kodi

Anyone else experiencing this? I haven't been able to find any info on this.

Only idea is ServerWMC host over HTTP. When I don't select this option I get a waiting spinner and the recording never plays. Thanks.

Definitely a question for the Linux/Live support forum, not hardware

Thanks for the answer Matt. Have now bought 2 x acer cxi celeron haswell models so let's see how that goes. As far as windows goes it looks like HDMI audio now also works so I don't know why it should not run? However I guess I will try openelec first but Windows with Netflix looks like a nice deal to me.

HDMI audio works using a specific set of older drivers; what issues result from that aren't fully known/documented. Bluray disc/ISO playback still doesn't work properly. You may need to use Speedfan to ensure the fan works. So it's not as perfect as the other 2955U/57U boxes with "regular" UEFI firmware. But if you just want Kodi+Netflix, it should be fine.
I just wanted to extend a very sincere "Thank you!" to the developer for all the time and effort invested in the SeaBIOS, OpenELEC, and this forum.

The finished product is nothing short of astonishing, and the instructions/procedures during "the build" were excellent.

I just wrapped up my third standalone Chromebox build (1 Asus & 2 Dells), and I thought a few things were worth posting about.

- On my Asus Chromebox I found the bottom panel difficult to grip for removal...thread two of the included VESA mounting screws into their respective holes on the bottom panel; lift. Easy access to the write-protect screw. No prying necessary.

- On the first Dell Chromebox I kept getting a blank screen after booting from USB and choosing "Run Installer"...followed Matt's advice about using an HDMI cable instead of a DisplayPort cable; I was then able to view the next screen and choose "Quick Install". Thanks Matt!

- On the second Dell Chromebox, I removed the write-protect screw, but I kept getting an error that the hardware write-protection was still enabled...followed Matt's forum advice about checking for excess copper on the circuit board at the former location of the write-protect screw; sure enough, there was a small copper "bridge" still connecting the two copper contacts where the write-protect screw had been. If you encounter this problem and you have access to an ohm meter (volt meter), just lightly scrape away the excess copper until your meter reads zero continuity across the two copper contacts. The copper "bridge" on this Dell was on the edge of the circuit board (would've been facing the threads of the write-protect screw, when installed) and was kind of a pain to remove. But, thanks to Matt, I knew exactly what to do (again).

Great job! Seriously.

Respectfully,

Mark

thanks, and thanks for your input, I've added your notes to the wiki instructions.

And to clarify for others -- with the DDM, what we want to see is a lack of continuity between the two halves, so if measuring the resistance between the two, a reading of infinity is the desired result.
I've been lurking around this forum for a while, waiting until I pulled the pin and bought an ASUS chromebox expressly for the purpose of running Matt's setup for a stand-alone Openelec install.

I've only ever intended to use the box to play content off my NAS; however, I recently subscribed to Netflix (Australia) and am now thinking I'd like to run Netflix on it as well. This may be more of a general openelec/kodi question but will I have any issues running the Netflix addon with this set up?

As an aside, I also want to run the NFL Game Pass addon. Any issues there?

Thanks
