Hi everygone

I want to thank Matt first for his fantastic work. I followed the instructions in the first post and I got ubuntu 14.04 and kodi (standalone installation) in my asus chromebox and everything works like a charm.

However I got some very disturbing video bugs (eg. https://www.reddit.com/r/xbmc/comments/2..._continues) in the kodi installation that it seems to be fixed by updating linux kernel and/or installing the new intel graphics drivers. Anyway, I spent some time surfing in internet looking for information for updating the ubuntu distro to 15.04 or 14.10 but I felt completely lost. I mean, there is a simple way to performing this? My first try was using the "software updater" inner tool of ubuntu distribution but, and I although ticked the "notify me of a new Ubuntu version" to "For any new version", I only got that my system was updated.

I fell lost. Does it means I'd have to run all the process described in the first post (removing the current installation)?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

(sorry for my broken english)

This is my first post on a forum, so I hope it ends up in the right section. I am running an asus chromebox, standalone with mythbuntu. I have it set up to use pm-suspend and mythtv sets an alarm to wake up for recordings. I can also wakeup using my remote power button and on resume in both cases my external HDD remounts to /var/lib/mythtv successfully with a custom script. (will share if anyone needs this).

My problem is that when in suspend, if power is lost there is no auto power on, and the alarm set by mythtv (or manually) no longer works.
Is their a way for the bios to auto boot on power on?
thanks in advance

the current firmware programming is to restore the AC state when power is lost if the unit is powered on, if it's in suspend I'm not sure that the behavior is defined. For some commercial clients I've tweaked the firmware behavior to power on any time AC power is applied, perhaps this would work for your situation as well. Feel free to PM me about it if so.

my recommendation would be to stick with Ubuntu 14.04, but manually update to a more current kernel which incorporates the driver updates and other relevant fixes. 14.10 and 15.04 will offer nothing particularly useful on their own. Here's an example of how to update the kernel: http://media-opensource.blogspot.com/201...l-415.html. (Disclaimer: I don't run Ubuntu / haven't tested this myself). Then update to the latest stable Kodi release (15.1)
Thank you Matt for a quick reply, that does sound like a solution for me. However, (noob first time on forum moment....) how do I pm you?

Thank you for your recommendation. I did it, and it works.

Do you recommend to install/update the intel graphics driver? I did a first try but it failed since it did't recognize the distribution. It seems I'm using the newest driver version for Ubuntu 14.10/15.04

Which SSH software do u recommend to update to Kodi 15 from 14. I had used stand alone EZ Setup in past.

Thanks
Harry

just follow the instructions to do a manual update per the OpenELEC wiki, no ssh needed, just drag/drop via SMB. There's a link on the ChromeBox wiki page to the OE wiki instructions.

I followed the instruction, I don't see the files , All I see is colums: Kodi logo-Video-Music That's it. It is question for OpenElec forum?

since you're a noob and don't have PM privileges, I'll PM you instead

no, I recommend you stick with the updated driver that's included in the kernel update unless you are having issues.

You need to use Windows Explorer / file manager window, not a web browser
I am in windows Explorer, I can see my printers and all PC and other stuff on network except openelec, when I do put the address,I get Kodi logo and profiles video music headers. Sorry to be bother.

You are the best, thank you so much
Sorry if this has been answered already. I'm trying to restore my standalone chromebox so i can go dual boot. I've got my linux usb but I'm not sure how to boot from that. How Would I go about that?
Nevermind. I found out it is my usb that is the problem

Power off, insert usb, power on, press ESC, select usb from menu
Hey, Matt...

Just set up a second Asus Chromebox, and have an issue I can't find in this thread or the Wiki.

I set it up as dual boot with Open Elec Stable and a 1s timeout with OpenELEC as the default.

However, the boot screen goes by SO FAST I can't get it to boot chrome. I see the SeaBIOS splash, then the ChromeOS splash for about 1/10th of a second.

As soon as I press The Ctrl key, it errors saying something about "this boot requires 9K of low DOS memory and you only have 400 K. ". And it hangs there.

Secondly, the WIKI says to use the Function-Arrow to get the command shell from the ChromeOS login. The arrow is reversed at least with respect to the keyboard that comes with the ASUS.

Thanks!!

you're hitting CTRL-D too late, since SeaBIOS is registering the key presses (which is why you're getting the error) and not the dev mod boot screen. Press it earlier. even if it means before your screen turns on (since your TV is likely being too slow to init).

Heheh... The TV is brand new... Smile But I'll give that a try. Thanks!
