My video nodes on my xbmc netbook are all samba shares hosted by an rpi that also runs xbmc

Opening some nodes (videos/files/folder) on the netbook causes xbmc to crash, whilst opening others is successful, so its something to do with the content of certain folders. I can open ALL video folders on the rpi without incident

Your database is nuts, remove your .xbmc directory:

The database was recovered from a backup taken from another xbmc instance that also used smb sources. (using the xbmc backup add-on)
I was led to understand that the backup was platform agnostic
the source of the backup was android, the target lubuntu..

But maybe thats not the case.. I'll try the backup recovery again and double check it was successful. Else I will drop and add the vide sources and re-build the database the long way

mmm my guess is xbmc sqlite db shouldnt go in a mysql setup.

In any case your advancedsettings.xml is incorrect and mssing the proper tags.
