I'd like to use my XBMC as my launcher... I've seen people saying they did this but many searches (xbmc forum and internet) I cannot find any guide or more that bits/hints

Anyone know of a guide or could maybe make a quick bullet list of what to do?

You just set apps as home items using a skin that supports it. There's some info on Fire TV (wiki).

I found the simplest way was to use the Confluence skin to set the apps you wish to launch as favorites, then switch to whatever skin you like and assign those favorites either to the media shelf or the menu as you like.
