The only thing i can think of is that the nvidia shield is an officially sanctioned / compatible android tv box with all of the correct drm protection etc in place that`s why your able to play netflix at the highest possible quality i think the nbc sports app knows this and thats why its only allows you to watch the stream at the lowest quality, the same thing happens with the netflix app on these cheap Chinese tv boxes.
The fire tv also has very high quality nbc sports streams so i think its official like the nvidia shield

Does the firestick also give the same quality as fire tv box and if not, what's the difference? (Aside from 4K vs HD)
As the developer of this addon hasn't responded to this thread in a long while, it is safe to assume that this addon is now dead in the water. Because of the silence, people have resorted to discussing issues that are not directly related to the addon on this thread, which is against the rules by the way. Anyways, it was really good while it lasted, and I for one is very grateful. Everyone should move on now...
Would be nice if the developer could inform us if he can get this working again or not so we know if there is an update coming later on or the addon is dead which I don't think as he did state that he was working on a new update on one of his last post

I think the featured also saw an update, at least thats what I had changed in my local but couldn't get it to work because I didn't understand the globals very well.

yeah same for me, the current live stuff is working, but none of featured section is at the min. but it's the live feeds are what really matters anyway.

agreed !!! thats all that really matters. it wasnt until this addon stopped working, i realised how much i missed it lol thanks again for the update
