Full Version: helix rc1 crashes w/ ps3 controller

I decided to try out kodi/helix rc1 today and it crashed at startup every time. I was surprised to see in the kodi log that it crashes right after it finds an attached ps3 controller. Sure enough, there was a connected ps3 controller, my son must have attached it to my desktop to charge it. I disconnected the controller and now kodi starts. I also tried rolling back to the last beta before rc1 and it had the same crash. Gotham did not have this problem. The crash logs can be found here:

lol, no problem, thanks for the link too. I was hoping to hear that this affected someone else before issuing a bug ticket.

Yeah, I've been on the forms for about two weeks asking for help with no luck. I literally could not think of anything more to do to fix it.

I submitted a bug too as soon as I saw your post.

Thanks again man, I appreciate you help.
This is also happening to me in 14.2 on Linux. I updated the bug ticket with related crashlogs.

Would really like to see it fixed as using the PS3 controller to control Kodi would be kinda cool.
I encountered the same with Kodi 15.2 under WIndows 7 x64.

Plugged a Playstation 3 controller into my HTPC USB port to charge it.

When I started Kodi it crashed immediately,

I re-booted my PC.. no solution
I checked and re-booted my SQL server, no solution
Checked my OpenElec PI2, Kodi working fine
Checked the kodi.log, these were the last lines:

Unplugged the controller: Issue solved.
Thank you GOD! Been trying to watch a movie on Kodi all afternoon, it worked perfectly as always yesterday, but today it crashed on startup. Even after reinstalling and everything, searching the forums, with no luck. Even posted a log file, and was waiting for a respond when I kept looking through the forums. AND THERE YOU WERE! when I saw in the title "crashes" "PS3 controller", I instantly remembered that I plugged in the controller in the computer for charging, since there was no free ports on the PS3 system.. Oh the horror.....
Getting the same crash in Kodi 16.0 “Jarvis” – Release Candidate 1. I was charging the PS3 controller. Unplugged it and Kodi stops crashing.
