I am starting xbmc via a systemd service which launches /usr/bin/xbmc-standalone which will prevent the user from accessing any shells I believe. Is it somehow possible to have a web-browser? I found the 'simple web browser' in the programs but it is too basic. Are there any others options?

you have to start a minimal WM, like fluxbox or openbox. Then use advanced launcher to start whatever browser you want.

EDIT: Got it working by just cloning the repo and dropping into Addons. Thanks.
