Well guys I've been using dreambox for long... and vu+ more recently... I was using xbmc few times in my pc by curiosity, but after saw this openelec + kodi + tvheadend running like charm at cost of a dinner... and more powerfull that any 400 eur enigma cpu box with half power of wetek that a single 1080p cannot play...
Per 100 eur I get a box that plays almost all movies. Natively Linux kodi and best dvb player... what more to ask...
Does anyone who owns this player shed some light on the playback of Android apps such as Netflix. Hulu, Amazon etc. How does it compare to ftv or Roku?
Can you use those apps without the mouse and keyboard by just using the remote? I hate to have to use fly mouse. Never enjoy it.

On WeTekForums user reported Netflix HD is working ok. WeTek RCU have Air Mouse mode, which can be turned on by pressing mouse On/off button. Of course You can move by buttons located around OK button.
Anyway Google Widevine DRM support is enabled in WeTek Play firmware, so any app (e.g HBO Go) which rely on it will work without issue.
What benefit would the Asus Chromebox be over the WeTek Play? (Using OpenELEC) I'm just going to be playing 1080p (at most) video direct through a television, so not really in the need of any of the streaming options (Netflix, etc)
Although the Chromebox is almost twice the price (That I can find it in Euros) would I get anything much more from it? (I'm guessing the UI speed on the WeTek isn't exactly a slouch?) Or would it be best to get the Asus, just to be "on the safe side", as it can do everything and more than I'd ever need? If not, I'm still aiming for the WeTek, by the looks of it.
One of the Tvheadend devs is on the list of people to receive a box, however I'm not sure if that's to ensure good interaction with the Amlogic version of Openelec or whether there is a possibility of a Android port of Tvheadend.
An possible alternative to get Live TV and PVR working inside Kodi on Android with the integrated TV-tuners could be to make a new PVR client addon for the MuMuDVB PVR backend as its upstream software supports running natively on Android and Linux, both on ARM and x86 embedded systems.

You actually don't need a very powerful backend box to run the TvHeadend server. Its requires low resources when running on Linux.
As an example I have a TvHeadend server on a 8 year old 1Ghz ATV1 running Ubuntu serving 3 Kodi clients in the house. It uses approx 4% CPU resources.
Just feed the HTSP stream into Kodi running on Android and your good to go.
However, deinterlacing will likely be an issue under Android, possibly mpeg2 too unless Wetek have that to sorted out ?

2. Interlacing remains a problem but is being actively worked (latest update ... well, yesterday)

I know, and yes most of us here know already that we could just a Tvheadend server on a low-end Linux system like example a Raspberry Pi as long as it is the same network at home, BUT still I thought I was clear that is not what I'm asking for here.
Instead I am really trying to clearly ask for a full native port of TvHeadend server to Android so that it will run on the simultaneously on the one box at the same time, with it running Android as its only OS.
The reason for this request is to meet the market of people that would like to become "cable-cutters" by just simply buying one single Android box, and for them I would like to be able to recommend Kodi and a Android box like WeTek but today can't since you can not access the Live TV and PVR parts in Kodi on Android, at least not unless you run a TvHeadend server on a other Linux box on the network which defeats the point of being able to recommend a single box.
This concept are for people who don't want to have multiple boxes running, nor have the skill or interest in maintaining an ecosystem of devices. They just want one inexpensive box, and for that one box to run Android so that they can use Android apps without having to dual-boot.

tvheadend works very stable on android devices (rk3188) and streaming other lan and wifi device. I use kodi 15 nightly build. only problem 15-30 channels fast zapping kodi closing. based problem rk3188 dont decode mpeg4 avc part10. infinity evo hisilicone work on android. tvh add on xbmc hisilicone drive tvheadend like dvbreceiver. tvh of add on xbmc can scan with tvheadend. no need web browser for.
