Hi,

i have an rk3288 android device. I play mkv and avi files. With hardware decoding my mkv hd files play well but my avi files stutters and the just work well with software decoding.

Is there a way (in advancedsettings) to say that kodi plays all my avi files with software decoding and all other files with hardware decoding or my default settings?
AVI and MKV are just file containers. What's more important is what codec is being used. You can use mediainfo (wiki) to find out the codec info on the files and then manually set different codecs to be software or hardware decoded: http://kodi.wiki/view/Advancedsettings.xml#video

Set both <stagefright> and <mediacodec> tags, just to be safe.
thank you for your reply. i used mpc for the information.

My Avi files have the following codec:
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 720x576 (16:9) 25fps 565kbps [V: h264 high L3.0, yuv420p, 720x576, 565 kb/s]
Audio: MP3 48000Hz stereo 192kbps [A: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s]

My mkv files the following:
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x800 23.976fps [V: h264 high L4.1, yuv420p, 1920x800 [default]]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 448kbps [A: Surround [ger] (ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, 448 kb/s) [default]]

So both seem to have the same codec with different settings. So avoiding using a special decoder seems not to be possible or? Moreover how should i specify it? The following comment dont tell me how to specify a commit for stagefright and mediacodec:
<!-- -1 is default, 0 is never used this codec, 1 is always use this codec, bypassing blacklist -->
