I updated XBMC to KODI on my android Xios Ds. When playing movies the CPU usage grows from 80% to 100% and then the box
is loosing video frames which results in a slight stutter every few minutes.
According to the Wiki it was a reference platform for the android development, but maybe it is to slow for KODI.
Has anyone managed to get KODI running on a Xios Ds?
You'll need hardware decoding turned on, and hardware decoding needs the v14.1 test build to work: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=213108
Thanks for your response.
I tested Kodi 14.1 from the provided link, but it does not solve the issue.
According to Point 3.8 of http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_FAQ
i set under System / Video / Acceleration the parameters
Decoding Method=Hardware accelerated
Allow hardware acceleration (amcodec) checked
Allow hardware acceleration (libstagefright) checked
With this settings Kodi 14.1 shows the same behaviour than Kodi 14.0. Cpu usage is nearly 100% and the video stutters from time to time.
When setting the Decoding Method to software the behaviour is the same.
It looks like the hardware decoding does not work in Kodi 14.1 on a xios ds (Amlogic AML8726-Huh).
Or is there a genral Hardware Acceleration switch that I did not see?
Can provide logfiles, if someone can tell how the log settings should be.
Can you post a debug log (wiki) of when you playback a video file?
The Kodi Log Uploader ended with an error. Therefore I used pastbin as also described in your link: http://pastebin.com/Gc68R19N
uenz: the RC and release versions of Kodi 14 gave my Pivos XIOS DS these issues - stuttering video playback, consistent 100% CPU usage, and half screen black. the build below eliminated them all.

Ned: any thoughts on the uniqueness of this specific build? i have never changed to other builds because this Kodi 15 Alpha1 continues to show "stable" performance on both Pivos XIOS DS and Nexus Player. ?

Well done Kodi developers!

When you used the test build, did you re-enable hardware video decoding? It doesn't look like it from your log. You'll need the AMcodec/amlogic option enabled.

Well done Kodi developers!

Nightlies have the most recent bug fixes, but not all of those bug fixes are included in the v14 builds because they haven't been tested to make sure they don't cause other issues. It's kind of a game of chance, sometimes. For some hardware configurations, the best thing is to run on a nightly, and those people don't have any issues. For others, with other hardware configurations, there might be issues with nightly builds.

That being said, the most recent nightly builds have been surprisingly stable.
@chris PH
Unfortunately this build does not help. CPU load stays at 100% and Video is also stuttering.[/align]
...

You have to re-enable hardware video decoding. You still have it turned off.
@ned Scott
I think that i turned the hardware acceleration on, but something is not working.
Switched back to your suggested 14.1 Version. Made this settings under Video / Acceleration:

As far as i understand the documentation this should enable the hardware acceleration.
And generated a new logfile: http://pastebin.com/Xwd73xuX
Issue is still the same. Should i use an external player? I try it with the default of Kodi.
Did further testing. Seems that Kodi has a problem playing .ts files with amcodec. Other file fomats play well with amcodec enabled and bad if disabled.
With .ts files it does not matter if amcodec is enabled or not, then it is always bad with 100% cpu load and frame loss.
Please try this build for ts issues: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/andr...bi-v7a.apk
This is the build which also has the .ts issue. With this build i made the previous logfile and the screenshots.
The logfiles show that dvdplayer is used to play the files. Does dvdplayer have amlogic support, or should instead amlplayer be used?
In v12 there was amlplayer and that is what you wanted, but in v13 and v14 amlplayer became a codec for dvdplayer. In other words, it should work using "dvdplayer" in v14.
