Hello,

I was using kodi for a while on android with no problem. Then I tried a movie and it freezed.

I had to press the home button on android.

Now, kodi does not start at all, I get a black screen.

Tried clearing the cache and stopping the app, but there is no way to make it start again.

Any clues?

Thanks

Your install is very broken and Kodi seems to be missing very important files. I would suggest reinstalling it.
What is broken?

And what files are missing?

It is not the first time that it happens to me. I had to reinstall many times.

I would like to know why it happens...
It is the same problem as these guys

when I've downloaded Kodi Helix and after the inital installation mine doesn't seem to work at all. But gotham works fine. its really weird.

Could you please tell me what is broken and what files are missing?

Thanks
It tells you in the log file:

ERROR: CSettings: error loading settings definition from special://xbmc/system/settings/settings.xml, Line 0
Failed to open file

The internal settings.xml file is corrupted or missing or something. I honestly have no idea why this would happen so often to you.
OK I got that thanks.

I did a fresh install, kodi is now working.

But where should that settings.xml file be located?

I go to /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/system

And it is empty.

Where is the settings.xml in Android?
"special://xbmc/ is mapped to: /data/data/org.xbmc.kodi/cache/apk/assets"
=>
"special://xbmc/system/settings/settings.xml" = "/data/data/org.xbmc.kodi/cache/apk/assets/system/settings/settings.xml"
Hummmm, thanks!

Can I make a copy of that file and just restore it when I have problems with it?

How come it is not recommended to backup that file in the wiki?

http://kodi.wiki/view/Backup#Manual_backup
Because it is installed the first time Kodi is run (in cache), does never change and is never deleted in normal circumstances until de-installation or cache cleaning.
Even if the cache is cleaned (properly), those files are re-installed the next time you start Kodi.
I'm pretty sure not only this file is deleted somehow, btw.

Might be some "smart" cleaning process on you box that deletes cached files when running out of disk space?
Not really.

It has plenty of free space.

In fact I just have it for kodi, but I am getting worried.

When a movie freezes for any reason, I might not be able to start kodi again.

Many times when kodi is running well I cannot even exit the program, it stays with the exit box there...

The android version is stable?
Mine isn't working either. I reinsalled but it's been crashing without any improvement. Please help. Thanks.
Try clearing the cache in Android settings > Apps > Kodi. I had the same problem and that worked for me.
