Full Version: Static in Audio

I recently purchased a cubox pro, loaded up openelec and everything is mostly fine. The unit is connected with HDMI to my TV, so kodi is trans coding and putting out 2.0 audio. I run a cache in order to prevent buffering in 1080p video and that part is great. The one thing seems to be an issue is the audio, sometimes it is fine and others it sounds like it has static for the lack of a better description

So 2 videos, one is a 720p TV show, the audio sync is off from the video, it has static and sometimes has an echo where lines are duplicated.

Second video is a 1080p BD rip, audio sync appears fine, it doesn't seem to have the echo, but it randomly has the staticky issue.

The TV episode certainly has more issue that the BD rip which is odd. During none of this is the CPU spiking or anything like that, so my first thought would be in regards to the cubox's ability to do audio trans-coding, but then why wouldn't the issue be constant across media. And second, why would the BD rip be better than the HDTV rip?
It could possibly be clipping, try reducing the Kodi volume control, if it is clipping then may take only 1 or 2 clicks down to remove.
Ah, let me try that. I think it is all the way up. I will retry with the episode from the other day. It was almost unbearable.

now that you mention that, I came from the popcorn hour series of players. They are set to 0, but you can go + and -, however, they decide with one of the firmwares to disable the feature. Even though you could still change it, it had no impact, so +10 is the same as 0. They did this for exactly such a reason, people were turning the volume up causing issues, even on accident, so to resolve it all together, they disabled it as it was not really needed.

I hope that this is all it is. I will test tonight hopefully. I will play the video and reproduce the issue, from there I can turn things down to see if it resolves things. thanks for the idea and here is to hoping it is something simple as this.
Just to add that having volume at 100% in normal circumstances shouldn't cause clipping or any other issue, what I suggest is a potential workaround to try and prove whether it is indeed clipping in some cases, then if you're so inclined we can look into the why to establish if there is either an issue with some of your files, or whether there might be a bug, or maybe some other issue with your system.
OK, so to be clear on a few things.

- kodi should be able to function without issue at 100% volume under normal circumstances

- kodi should be capable of transcoding audio to 2 channels and passing it to my TV for use

- if I play the same file on an rpi openelec system vs the cubox where I have experienced this, then the issue could be with the cubox and completely independent of kodi

- if issue is with cubox, whose problem is this? Is it a compatibility thing or hardware specific

The last 2 are worst case, let me test the lowered volume first.
Was watching a bluray rip of mr peabody, took the audio to 86 and was still getting the static sound. Nothing really evident in the log. It doesnt seem to do it all the time, sort of comes and goes with the scene. let me know. thanks
