Full Version: Remote Control Over HTTP And The Letter "E"

This has not happened to me in previous versions of XBMC but now that I'm running Kodi 14.1 I'm getting an issue on searching. Specifically when I am using a remote on my phone that communicates over http (I have confirmed this happens on all remote apps on ios that talk over http) and a search field comes up, when I type the letter "e" it completes the search instead of adding "e" to the text string. It is not a major issue but it does mean that I can't really use the keyboards on my phone because I can't search anything with the letter "e" in it. Is this a known issue? Is there perhaps a workaround?

Edit: this does not happen with the official xbmc remote, only the third party ones.
Can't reproduce your issue with my remote :-)
I'm able to reproduce this on my setup every time. It is quite annoying when you can't search for anything with the letter e. I am using Kodi 14 on an Android MX3 device. The remote I am using is Roomie Remote on my iPhone.

A few things i have noticed about this issue:

1. I tried this with another iphone xbmc remote and it was able to send the letter e just fine. I can't remember which remote, maybe it is not sending it via http.
2. I contacted Roomie about this issue. They tested it and said it was related to the fact it was an Android device and the issue was not with Roomie Remote. I verified by installing Kodi on Win 8 and using the same remote. The letter "e" worked fine with this setup.
3. I believe it is actually sending the "cursor enter" command instead of the letter e. It just happens that the "done" button is highlighted when the keyboard first shows up, so if you press "e" it sends the enter command, and you are essentially clicking done. This can be verified by highlighting a different button and then pressing the letter e. I guess a workaround could be to highlight the letter "e" each time you open the keyboard, then when you press e it will actually send the letter e.
I am plagued by this since a long time now (Openelec). In my never ending quest to fix this, I realized there is one workaround - if you send the upper case 'E' rather than 'e', then xbmc accepts it just fine. So, is it possible to alter the keymap in a way to translate all incoming 'e' s into 'Shift+e'? Or to permanently send all characters in upper case maybe, cos otherwise it would be pain if creating or editing file/ folder names.
I'm having the exact same issue and I've been on a quest to fix it as well. I'm running Kodi 14.1 on Matricom G-Box android device. My next step is to see if I can do anything on the android OS side.

I had the very same problem. Now, though, the keyboard doesn't even pop up!
Same problem, kodibuntu when searching in youtube addon.
