I get screensaver as well. Using Kodi nightly build kodi-20150711-8f7349f-Isengard-armeabi-v7a.apk.
So far No, I have not seen the screensaver show while watching video.

This problem seems to be the release and how it handles frame rate. It appears to be accumulative, it gets worse the longer you watch.
Changing channels or videos does not change the result. Only exiting kodi and restarting resolves it for a few minutes and then goes west, so to speak.

This occurs on the 2 platforms I am using, Shield Android TV and Windows 7 must be an issue with the release.I am using the released RC2.

Didn't solve it for me at least.

You might have to remove your guisettings.xml, or at least the <resolution> tags herein.
Okay will give that a try, thanks.
I filed a bug report and this was the response I got on this problem:

Comment (by FernetMenta):

Live stream only work with PVR addons. In your case the device plays the
stream slightly faster than the stream comes in. After those 12-20 the
input queue runs dry which leads to follow-up errors.

Go figure......

In a few days my brother is travelling to the US so I have the rare opportunity to get some hardware at US prices and I'm seriously considering the NVIDIA Shield Android TV... For the last half year I've been using an overclocked Raspberry Pi 1 B with OpenELEC (which is awesome BTW) but I'm missing a CPU powerful enough to decode 1080p H264 Hi10p (not that I love 10-bit but it's increasingly harder to find anime in 8-bit). Anyway, since such a CPU requires spending at least $140 (Chromebox / Braswell) I'm thinking I might spend an extra $60 and futureproof myself by covering 1080p HEVC main10 (which is likely what the anime fansubs will use next).

So with that in mind and after reading the known SATV limitations:

(2015-07-07, 16:35)drhill Wrote: [ -> ]There are only three things or so we could expect at this point for Kodi's improvement.
1) A codec pack available for purchase (VC-1, DTS*, and DDTrueHD decoding as well as passthrough HD audio).
2) Properly implemented 23.967 and 59.94 playback.
3) Support for MVC and other "fringe" things like Hi10p in hardware.
4) Support for deinterlacing other than Bob for H264.

I'm hopeful #1 comes soon as it is definitely noticeably missing. #2 is a bigger thing to overcome and I don't believe they ever committed to this either. Hopefully it will come sometime in the near future but don't expect it right away and it isn't as big of a deal as 24/60p does work well. #3 I don't expect at all but would be great (MVC for me). #4 seems like Fight Club.
More discussion about these wanted media features here https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic...st-thread/

Tough pretty sure that VPU hardware decoding of H.264 Hi10p will never ever be added NVIDIA Shield Android TV.

I would however be surprised if H.264 MVC support was not added in an future update soon.

Some more requests directly or indirectly related to to better (video) media playback via Kodi include these:

1. Support for HDMI-CEC in Kodi via http://kodi.wiki/view/Libcec from Pulse-Eight ( http://libcec.pulse-eight.com ).
2. Support for DVBAPI (DVB API) in kernel and drivers so Shild can run native Linux apps like Tvheadend for Kodi PVR. Basically adding same DVB API kernel and driver functionally as this CyanogenMOD firmware adds to WeTek Play: http://wetekforums.com/vb5/forum/wetek-p...di-live-tv (also read http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR and http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR_backend ).
3. VC-1 and WMV9 hardware decoder support via Kodi (please note that VC-1 and WMV9 uses the same codec).
4. 3D MVC (Multiview Video Coding) for stereoscopic H.264 and HEVC hardware decoding via Kodi.
5. HDMI 3D frame packing, field alternative, line alternative, SBS, TAB,, L+depth, L+depth +Gfx + Gfx-depth output.
6. Hardware deinterlacing for both H.264 and MPEG-2 video streams.
7. Support for 21:9 aspect ratio output to Ultra Widescreen monitors, televisions and home cinema projectors.
8. Support for 23.976p, 29.97i, and 59.94p Hz video frame rate outout and automatic refresh switching.
9. 7.1, and 5.1 surround HD audio pass-through/bitstreaming for DTS-HD MA, Dolby True HD, and Dolby Atoms.
10. Kernel & API spport for USB DVD-ROM drive and Blu-ray USB drives for DVD-Video discs and Blu-ray Disc playback.

I think I can live with them, my TV doesn't support 23.967fps and I don't have an audio receiver. Is there anything else I'm missing? Should I pull the trigger on this?
So, all this talk about a zillion bugs, is the nvidia shield any good for kodi, yes or no? Or should i just forget about it and get an amazon fire or a chromebox?

Yes.
Guys, I've split off your (interesting) electrical discussions, as they were a tad out-of-scope
I updated my Kodi through the Google Play Store the other day (much more convenient than the sideload update, awesome to have this) and noticed one main change. When I'd do codec info on the playing video, the screen has been the same as long as I've remembered, and I'd compare the video frame rate to the playing frames per second, to see the difference. In the newest update on the Shield, you still get the frame rate, but the frames per second is gone. Where is it now? Was this done on purpose?

Just read the wiki, I guess FPS wasn't actually FPS and it likely was taken out.

Quote:For the user some meaningless value.
Note: NOT FPS AT ALL!!!.
This is most likely of no value to the user. I wanted to remove it but there was protest by people not knowing what this is about. Actually this has been a cycle counter of the application's main loop which in many cases was almost equal to video FPS. After introduction of dirty regions some while ago this started more and more not to be the value it pretends to be. If you are not interested in fading control of labels or scrolling text, this is not of any interest to you.
If you want to check if your video playback is working as it should, watch the skip and drop values. If those stay low, nothing to worry about. Increasing skip value means, that video frames cannot be rendered in time. If you even see dropping, then it's our last resort, as the system seems to be too slow to play that video and we told the decoder to throw away complete frames.

Finally gave up waiting for the China octa cores to come out and getting this delivered today. On XDA forums there is a custom "Full Android" ROM floating around if anyone want to try..
