Please Help me on this,
I installed the latest kodi on my Amazon Fire TV Stick (AFTV Stick)
When enable the subtitle (srt file), when ever the subtitle shows up / change , it cause the video stutter (freeze like 0.5 sec)
It's super annoying and a pain to watch a stuttering movie.

I searched for the solution but the only thing i can try is to install SPMC 13.4.0
It did get better on SPMC 13.4.0, but still happens sometime, and I still wish I can use kodi (official version).

so...is there any way to completely fix this problem on Kodi?
like change settings or modified xml...etc

I'm no coder I'm just here to provide information that I knew.

I'm currently experiencing the same issue with every Chinese .srt subtitle.
It gets even worse when I set the font size larger, or use a more complicated font than Arial for subtitle.
No matter what version I'm using, Kodi or SPMC, it's still the same 1-2 frame drops just before every subtitle appears.
However Chinese .ass works rather well.
Any video file without a subtitle file plays with almost no frame drop.

Did some search, seems it's a known issue about Kodi not handling Chinese .srt nicely:

I even tried the advancedsettings.xml workaround described here:

But without any difference, seems like those settings are deprecated?


It's so sad that Kodi is such a great project with so many unique features, but this frustrating problem practically blocks us from making use of it.

As I said I'm no coder but I'm planning on raise the awareness of this problem.
Before going any step further I need some ideas first. What's the next step you guys suggest?

Finding a option in advancedsettings.xml to change the way the font cached?
Finding a way to render all SRT subs like .ASS?
Submitting a bug report while they are all busy with Kodi 15?
Providing proof/log of this issue?

Did you try an Isengard 15 alpha?
The way the fonts are handled was optimized.

I just installed the latest nightly, kodi-20150408-73c7fda-master-armeabi-v7a.apk
I'd say the stutter of Chinese .SRT subtitle is definately less but it's still there, at least noticeable.

Also .ASS subtitle won't display with or without "override ass/ssa subtitle font" option marked.
Maybe it's because I don't have fonts required by this .ass subtitle installed. However the same .ASS subtitle displays well on Helix builds, with very few "frame skips"/stutter.

Is it OK that I link a Chinese .srt subtitle so you all can verify the issue?

BTW, I notice the border of subtitle is weird on this nightly: there's artifacts and tearing.
