Can anyone help?
Is your network stable? Can you ping it besides sharing something continuously? If yes - does system mounts work better?
As far as I know yes. I don't have this problem when I use Kodi on my windows pc and I can ping it continuously. I haven't tried system mounts, but I can try it if you think the info will help.
Windows + smb is something different than linux + smb, so yes.
I had to install cifs-ultils and add "wins" to nsswitch.conf (it's a windows server) to even be able to mount the shares. After I did, said error had already occurred and mount gave me the message: "host is down" even though it wasn't. I had to reboot the server to be able to access the shares again.
After that I removed all the samba sources from kodi and added the mounted dirs. This does seem to prevent the network error from occurring. I haven't been able to reproduce it since. I would much prefer using the network shares though, if at all possible.
It points to a VFS issue on our side - I am sadly not an expert in that part of the code -> trac.kodi.tv and add Karlson2k please.
Unfortunately I was wrong. Mounting seems to have made the bug harder to reproduce, it has not solved the problem.
